When one wants to argue against the arising (of things), one asks refuting questions. Just as an opponent, through reasons and examples established by the svatantrika-pramana, causes self-arising to be refuted and brings about results, if one argues with just these contradictory reductios expressed by the prasangika, wouldn't the opponent Samkhya school admit that in their own tenet, what is to be established and what establishes are contradictory? Recognizing the contradiction is the direct action of the reductio, (105a) abandoning the tenet is the indirect action. From where does it come that just these reasons and examples, along with bringing about results, are used to argue? This way of explaining, although it seems clean in early documents regarding this, doesn't seem very relevant. Therefore, it is better to explain that the prasangika, in order to refute the internal contradictions said by the Samkhya school, argues with just these reasons and examples acknowledged by the opponent, called by others, which cause self-arising to be refuted and bring about results, as it appears in some ancient texts. However, if the opponent Samkhya school, even when refuted because of contradicting their own commitments, still doesn't abandon self-arising, then even if one states reasons and examples established by one's own system's pramana, they will not turn away from the tenet of self-arising, because that person is shameless. If one states correct reasons and examples, one can prevent self-arising, because the three aspects are established by one's own system's pramana, thereby refuting the opponent's view. Then, the reductio can also do this, because the establisher is established through commitment, thereby refuting the opponent, which is the same. If even after showing the harm of reason in this way, they still don't abandon it, then we are not arguing with a madman, and the word "also" is used again to express shamelessness. Therefore, the teacher Lekdenjé is not a holder of any established position of the Madhyamika's own system, but after following those who hold such a position, (105b) when fully engaging in inference, he manifests his own fondness for inferences established by his own system, merely manifesting fondness. If one examines both truths, then the dharma that can be established through one's own system's pramana is what?

Furthermore, it is impossible. Secondly, if one is a Madhyamika, then it is also unreasonable to infer with one's own continuum. Because the unerring awareness of the inferable object, which is established by one's own system of valid cognition, is not established. Because there is no acceptance that another aspect other than the non-erroneous is erroneous, as established by one's own system of valid cognition. For example, a reliable inference that exists in one's own system cannot be found, because to find it, one must establish a reliable inference that does not exist in another's system, but in this system, such an establishment is said to be only what should be refuted. As Arya Deva said: 'Existing, non-existing, and existing and non-existing, in whatever direction they do not exist, then even after a long time, one cannot speak of fault.' So it is said. In the Refutation of Disputes, it is also said: 'If I, a Madhyamika, have any commitment to the nature of existing and non-existing entities established by valid cognition in both truths of my own system, then I would have the fault of not stating the sign and example, and not removing the faults spoken by others. However, since the ultimate truth is free from all elaborations, and the conventional truth is merely dependent and imputed, I do not have the commitment of my own system's valid cognition establishing these two truths (106a). Therefore, I only have the fault of not stating the sign and example of selflessness. If one aims to establish some factual phenomena with the four valid cognitions such as direct perception, then it could be established if there is something to be established in one's own system or to be refuted from one's own system. However, since there is no such thing, I, a Madhyamika, have no fault of not stating the sign and example of my own system, etc.' So it is said. Furthermore, some say that the statement that Madhyamikas do not have their own continuum of commitment is made in terms of establishing complete exclusion, not in terms of distinguishing what should be refuted, because distinguishing refutation is neither existence nor non-existence. The object to be established by Madhyamikas is also merely a distinguishing non-affirmation. So they say. Then, Madhyamikas should not have a commitment to distinguishing refutation, because the commitment to distinguishing refutation is not a commitment, because such a commitment is neither existence nor non-existence in general. Or, Madhyamikas should have a commitment to establishing pervasive exclusion.
