Although the Prasangikas do not assert the three aspects of a sign, property, and reason, etc., of worldly conventional entities established by nominal valid cognition, when making these designations, they express themselves only according to the common acceptance of any worldly person. If, like you proponents of inherent existence, you analyze worldly conventional entities and assert that they are established as your own system of nominal valid cognition, then you must admit that there are many designations that do not agree with worldly common acceptance and are not even established in convention. In that case, please argue, you proponents of inherent existence who assert tenets, with the worldly people who do not say that. When arguing in that way, for the sake of designation, I, the Prasangika, will also follow anyone who has the result of acceptance and rejection in designation. As it is said: "Commitment is also taken only from the world; therefore, in order to refute, one should rely only on what one has committed, but not on others." This is said. If the world does not harm you, then rely on the world (96b) to refute this. You and the world argue here, and afterwards I, the powerful one, will rely on it. We will be in a very difficult situation in order to reverse the world's conventions, you destroy the world's conventions. If the world does not harm you, I will establish emptiness for you. There is also harm from the world, so rely on abandonment. You and the world argue here, and if you win at that time, then afterwards we will also follow you, so rely on you. But if you are defeated by the world, then at that time I will rely on the very powerful world. This is said. Furthermore, the Prasangikas do not assert that there is a valid cognition that is established as similar to the proponents of inherent existence and the three aspects of a sign, property, and reason. As it is said: "All those things that are similar to images have neither their own characteristics nor common characteristics. What are direct perception and inference? Here, direct perception is only one, which is the wisdom of the omniscient one." This is said.

In particular, this teacher does not hold that the entities of the three aspects of sign, property, and thing, which are established by reasoning consciousness and conventional valid cognition that rely on the two truths, should ever be considered to be established in accordance with the world. As it is said in the scriptures: "The Buddhas have never taught that any entity exists." Therefore, your seeking of "that" is to eliminate worldly misconceptions by relying on the speech of worldly others. If it is thought that the three aspects of sign, property, and thing, which are established by worldly conventional valid cognition, must also be accepted by the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgika as being established in a concordant appearance, just as they are established by worldly people, then he has already foreseen that such a perverse idea would arise, so he answered in the manner of a future prophecy that this situation is not universal. Because in the process of seeking "that," all the proofs, assertions, refutations, and establishments that determine "that," whether they transcend the world or not, without being established by their own nature or independently by valid cognition, merely rely on the thoughts of self and other debaters, and the relativity of what is reasonable and unreasonable, to eliminate non-dharmic cognitions and thereby comprehend the correct meaning. As it is said in the scriptures: "If the world were valid cognition, then it would be sufficient for the world to see it themselves, what need would there be for other noble ones? What use would there be for the path of the noble ones? It is not reasonable for fools to be valid cognition either. Because in all cases the world is not valid cognition, therefore, in the context of seeking 'that,' the world does not cause harm." In particular, when seeking the suchness that is free from elaboration, it is necessary to ascertain that the three aspects of sign, property, and thing of the worldly conventional, which serve as its basis, are established by conventional valid cognition. To say this is merely to speak without having understood the meaning of the noble Chandrakirti's statement that "all things are not established by their own nature." Because when seeking "that," one should not examine whether the worldly conventional signs, properties, etc., which are the basis for seeking "that," are established by conventional valid cognition. Because reasoning consciousness cannot find worldly conventional signs, properties, etc., that are established by conventional valid cognition apart from suchness itself, therefore, the very fact that they cannot be found harms those who want to find them. You, however, are reversed.
