It is not the case that, in accordance with the views of other proponents of refutation, one merely grasps at the appearance of sprouts, etc., as the subject of debate, rather than grasping at sprouts and inner bodhicitta, etc., as the subject of debate established in one's own system by conventional valid cognition. As it is said in the Ornament of the Root Treatise: If all dharmas are asserted to be without inherent existence, then since the qualities of direction, etc., are not established in themselves, is it not the case that the terms "inference" and "that which is to be inferred" cannot be established? Therefore, how does the inferrer determine? Furthermore, if one does not state the reason for establishing all dharmas as being without inherent existence, then since it cannot be established without a reason, the desired meaning cannot be established. If one does state it, then there is a reason, but even then, all dharmas cannot be established as being without inherent existence, so the desired meaning cannot be established. This is because, in this way, due to the distinctions arising from the scriptures, having abandoned the subject of debate, among the wise, women, and children, for things that have become famous, these entities of proof and that which is to be proven will all accurately enter. If it is not so, then the basis is not established. And so on, how should one answer? I do not deny the nature of appearance, therefore, the establishment of proof and that which is to be proven is not confused. All the terms of inference and that which is to be inferred, having completely abandoned the different subjects of debate arising from mutually incompatible tenets (93a), rely on the nature of appearance, such as the subject of debate of sound, etc., which appears to the consciousness of the eye, ear, etc., among the wise, women, and children, and thus enter. If it is not so, then the basis of the reason for all that one wishes to prove, such as fire from smoke and existence, and impermanence, etc., will not be established, because the nature of the subject of debate of the proof, such as the parts and the qualities of space, etc., is not established. In that case, the subject of debate of the example, which possesses both qualities, will also not be established. If others also accept such terms as proof and that which is to be proven, then what is the use of the fame of surpassing the wise? In this way, without looking at one's own system, it is merely the fault of another's system. I also, for the nature of appearance that appears to the consciousness of the eye, etc.,
