This is said (89a), That teacher was not named because of his deep and sharp wisdom, as he was very proficient in the great systems of both internal and external, such as grammar and epistemology. Rather, it is because, with regard to the objects of conventional truth, he was so strongly influenced by worldly conceptualizations that he held onto them, and even in conventional truth, he believed that the measure of conventional truth was established, and that temporary establishment was effective. Therefore, he was called a "proponent of tenets." Therefore, when the teachers of the Consequentialist school of Madhyamaka make choices for the sake of liberation based on conventional truth, they do not make choices based on objects that are established by reason and can withstand scrutiny. Instead, they abandon the side of pervasive affliction, which is based on the mere fame and dependence of all beings, and take the side of purification. This seems to be an unconsidered and unexamined agreement that does not consider the nature of conventional truth. Because if there were something established by valid cognition in both of the two truths of one's own system for the sake of liberation, and one were to make choices based on it, one would not even dream of it. Although they do not accept the establishment of terminology, they establish it in accordance with the fame of others. This is not only the case with this teacher, but also with the teacher Dharmakirti, who also establishes some such terminology in accordance with others. As it is said: "Although the wise have no distinctions, yet due to inverted views, what is grasped, the grasper, and what is experienced, are understood as having differences." And: "Although what is grasped, the grasper, and consciousness are not existent, yet the measurable, the measurer, and the result, are established as they should be." Meaning that although they do not accept it, they speak in accordance with others. And: "The sound and meaning are the same as this and that, although they are not existent, yet as such, they are proclaimed in accordance with the world, this is not possible in reality. The establishment of the subject and the predicate, whether they are different or the same, without considering their true meaning, relying solely on what is accepted by the world, establishing all that is to be proven and the proof, for the sake of entering the ultimate truth, the wise have done so." Meaning that the sound and meaning are not self-characterized entities, but they are falsely imputed as such to show others what is known, just like that. So, your reason for seeking suchness

If it is said that for the refutation and establishment of the conventional, it should be done according to the other-accepted ways that are in accordance with the world. Then, for those who, like worldly materialists and cowherds, have not yet become vessels for the teaching of the suchness of Madhyamaka, and have not tasted the nectar of that suchness, their other-accepted refutations and establishments do not exist. Therefore, when these people enter into that suchness, to say that they refute and establish based on the terminology known to worldly fools is complete nonsense. If someone asks: Are worldly people necessarily those who are like unclothed barbarians, or those born in places without leisure? It is not necessarily so. Rather, all those who, due to the power of the two obscurations, conceive of the conventional world as the duality of grasper and grasped, and all phenomena that appear therein rely on that way of speaking, thinking, and expressing, are considered worldly people. Therefore, on the level of the conventional world, whether it be the world itself or the treatises, all names of things that were previously known and could be known are referred to as the names of the conventional world (90a). As the bodhisattva Shantideva said: "He sees two worlds, yogis and ordinary people. Ordinary people are harmed by yogis, and yogis are also harmed by higher and higher minds due to differences in intelligence." Therefore, when the state of perfect Buddhahood is attained, although for the sake of taming other beings, due to the power of past accumulations and aspirations, the conventional dependent arising of the Buddha's form and wisdom will appear, in the Buddha's own view, all the elaborations and fixations of the entire conventional world will be pacified. This is the very lifeblood of the excellent teachings of the Prasangikas. Furthermore, in the writings of the great scholar Mayaja, it says: "Some say that through the valid cognition that engages with the power of objects, the refutation and establishment of both sides are certain." And: "Through the valid cognition that engages with the power of objects, that very thing is realized." Those logicians who follow Dharmakirti also say this. Based on these statements, some later scholars believe that the things such as valid cognition accepted by the Sutra and Mind-Only schools are inherently existent ultimate truths, and that the Svatantrika Madhyamikas also accepted and refuted them in that way. This interpretation of the views of earlier great masters is mistaken.
