The difference between Prasangika and Svatantrika Madhyamaka is that, in conventional truth, through explaining, debating, and writing about the Madhyamaka teachings and the words of the Victorious Ones, when refuting the wrong conceptions of others, the scriptural and logical proofs for refuting these wrong conceptions do not have the nature of being valid cognitions in conventional truth, and thus do not have the nature of refuting their opposite aspects. Rather, they merely follow the fame and pronouncements of other valid cognitions in the world, and thus they prevent the establishment of phenomena not only in ultimate truth but also in conventional truth. This is called Prasangika. Conversely, although in ultimate truth, the reasons for refuting wrong conceptions do not have the nature of being established as valid cognitions in ultimate truth, in conventional truth, when refuting wrong conceptions, if one does not accept that the reasons are established as valid cognitions in conventional truth, one cannot refute the wrong conceptions of those who assert real entities. This is called the Svatantrika system. The Madhyamaka tenets of Prasangika and Svatantrika are distinguished solely by this. If one does not examine other aspects, then the different views that appear due to the different ways of establishing conventional truth are not the basis for establishing Prasangika and Svatantrika as two systems. Apart from these, there is a profound difference in the views of Prasangika and Svatantrika Madhyamaka (315a). Therefore, this distinguishes the two systems, just as the venerable Maitreya carried a burden, the noble Manjushri rode a lion, and Vajrapani led a large army of yakshas. No matter how much they said, I do not think it is true, because it contradicts the fame of the systems of the previous Prasangika and Svatantrika Madhyamikas in worldly conventional truth. The words of the Sugata, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, are as certain as the explanation of "You should kill your parents." Thirdly, if one's own thesis, the means of understanding, the reason, and the real establishment, and the very nature of what is to be understood actually become the nature of the thesis, then the reasons for conjunction and so on should be closely connected, but those do not exist either, so your frustration is in vain. Furthermore, if the Madhyamika has the real establishment of the reason that is the means of understanding his own thesis, and the reason can actually become the means of understanding, and also has the ability to establish the very nature of the thesis, then the reasons for the conjunction and non-conjunction of the thesis and the means of proof

If refutation is to occur through close combination and connection, but we do not have reasons such as self-established nature, then you crush others' theories with your own illogical views and claim that they are illogical. This is merely exhausting accusations against us, purely nonsense. For example, just as a blurry comb cannot harm non-blurry things, if cause and effect are established without examining self-nature, then what harm is there in accusing cause and effect with self-nature? Therefore, the arguments of realists against Madhyamikas are merely supporting (p. 315) their own views with their own imaginations. They think that Madhyamikas will surely accept the opposite of what they want, and thus they argue. They think that Madhyamikas, like them, also want to establish their own and others' positions, to establish what is to be proven and what proves it, to refute, etc., so they argue. Therefore, all the refutations of Madhyamikas by realists are refuting by setting up their own discriminations as opponents without fully understanding the premise. My father, the accomplished Sangye Nyenpa, said in his song: You who try to prove me as real, All those who accept scriptures and reasoning, Are extremely afraid of me becoming unreal, Therefore, they do meaningless debates. If there is no attachment to me and non-me, These two positions, Then the dispute of debate will disappear. Even billions of scriptures and reasoning cannot harm. Even if you haven't been to the monastery of Phowo Zang, You can still utter the lion's roar that surpasses everything, From the valley that dispels the mist. Just as the noble Khachö Wangpo said: No matter how good the view of the doctrine is, It goes against the meaning of reality. It also changes here to say: No matter how good the reasoning of measurement and establishment is, It contradicts reality and presents darkness. That's what it means. Therefore, even if you study examples such as eyes and magnets that can work without contact, it will not be established because the faults are the same. The scriptures say: Even if the lamp does not touch, If it can dispel the darkness, (p. 316) Then the darkness that exists in all the worlds, Will be dispelled by the lamp that exists here. And,
