Just as Lava refutes illusion with illusion, illusion refutes illusion with illusion, in a dream, reason refutes illogical speech, and light dispels darkness, one must understand it in this way. Some who have not comprehended such profound Madhyamaka, believe that the deceptive teachings of illusion arising from karma and afflictions, like the double moon seen by a blurred eye, the objects of eye consciousness—form and vase, etc.—are established by nominal valid cognition, so they are true as if established. To cling to this as true (310b) is not true clinging, but the correct Madhyamaka view. True clinging means that if there exists a truly established thing that is not so, a horn that is nowhere to be found, then clinging to that is true clinging. Then, worldly people who have not entered a philosophical system will naturally realize the Madhyamaka view, and it will be impossible for them to have innate true clinging. Because worldly people do not regard the objects to be refuted, such as vases, as being established from their own side, as things that are nowhere to be found. Because they only cling to the thought that this appearance in the mind is true, it exists. Here it is said: If the object to be refuted as a reason, the self-truth, is knowable, then therefore, the self-truth appears there, and together with clinging to it, the conventional truth will not be true. Therefore, the self-truth, the object to be refuted as a reason, cannot exist even in the world. If one thinks so, then all worldly people will effortlessly realize the Madhyamaka view, because worldly people never think of the object to be refuted as a reason as the true conventional truth, but only as the false conventional. Even for the false conventional of the worldly people themselves, even if they have not refuted it with reason saying that it does not exist, how can the worldly innate mind regard the false conventional as true? The self-truth, the conventional truth, which is refuted by reason, if it acts on the truly established itself, then therefore, the object of refutation of reason and the path, both are the same basis, not other than that. If reason does not refute the true establishment of conventional truth (311a), then therefore, the path does not become the object to be refuted, because reason and valid cognition do not regard conventional truth as the object to be refuted, because reason will regard it as what is to be established. The truth of the path arising from meditation

Because of existence, conventional truth also becomes what is to be established. If you think so, then for the noble ones, there is only conventionality, because conventional truth is not found anywhere, so it is impossible to generate the thought of clinging to conventional truth, isn't this contradictory to what is said? The conventional truth that is established there and clung to there, if it is the object of refutation of the sign, it will become knowable. If not, then other than conventional truth, the object of refutation of the sign that is true and clung to there, can only be ultimate truth. At that time, the reasoning that refutes the object of refutation of the sign is very necessary in this world. If this world has not seen the ultimate truth, then for the ultimate truth, there is no self and no selflessness, because it is impossible to generate the imputation of mistaking truth and untruth, if there is no basis for clinging to the difference, how can the difference be found? For the knowable, on the level of not analyzing terms, I and only the true object exist, because the generation of clinging to it has not been found. For example, the thought that clings to sound as permanent, through that way of clinging, in the knowable, sound is permanent, for the knowable, the knowing mind also in the same way as the knowable, haven't you seen it mistakenly think? Sound is not permanent in both truths. Similarly, for this conventional dharma of things, I and truth are not established in both truths (311b), even so, on the level of illusion, as the nature of conventional knowable, and those who cling to conventional truth, are only dependent on the establishment of knowable and knowing, on the level of not analyzing are the same, but when analyzing, both knowable and knowing do not exist. In this snowy region, there is no clinging to permanent and impermanent, self and selflessness in three ways, is there a thought that does not cling to permanent and impermanent, self and selflessness in three ways? On the same basis, the thought that clings to both permanent and impermanent, self and selflessness, does it exist or not in the world? If not, then can you prevent the generation of the fourteen unstated views? If it exists, then it contradicts the idea that there is no clinging to permanent and impermanent, self and selflessness in three ways. If there is a thought that clings to three ways that is neither of these two, then it is between the thought that clings to these two ways and the thought that does not cling to three ways, it is three ways of clinging that are contradictory.
