Therefore, it is established as mine. Therefore, mine does not exist, because the agent has become selfless. Therefore, one should view the aggregates as empty of self and what belongs to self. If one does not observe samsara, then that yogi will be liberated. If one does not fixate on forms, etc., then thoughts of attachment, etc., will not arise for them. Hearers and solitary realizers will not accept or reject and will pass into nirvana. Bodhisattvas, although they realize selflessness, nevertheless, due to the power of compassion, maintain the continuum of existence. Third, it is shown that all things are dependently imputed. There are two parts: a detailed explanation of cause and effect; all things, although they cannot be found upon analysis, are nevertheless established merely by convention; all conventions do not contradict the two truths. The first is: pots, cloths, fences, armies, forests, rows of trees, houses, vehicles, dust, guest houses, and so on, whatever things there are, and likewise, whatever is produced from causes and conditions, those which are expressed by beings, all of those should be understood as such. Why? Because the Able One does not dispute with the world. Just as the self and what belongs to it are like a chariot, compare all things to be the same as that. Like pots, cloths, fences, armies, forests, rows of trees, houses, vehicles, dust, guest houses, and so on, all of those (307a) are like a chariot, they do not exist when analyzed by the seven modes, but other than that, they exist dependently on their own collection of parts, as such it is established. Likewise, things that are produced from just these causes and conditions, those things that are expressed and named by beings, should be understood as established by convention, without analysis. Why? Because the Able One said that he does not dispute with the world, the world disputes with me, I do not dispute with the world, thus he teaches without denying worldly conventions. The second is: limbs, qualities, attachment, nature, and firewood, etc., those with qualities, those with limbs, attachment and essence, meanings such as fire. These are analyzed by analyzing the chariot, so the seven modes do not exist, but other than that, they exist by worldly convention. In the world, in what way are things named?

Now, regarding the terms "parts, qualities, desire, nature, and firewood, etc.," they respectively refer to having parts, having qualities, attachment, essence, and fire, etc. Combining these meanings before and after, analyzing them in seven ways like a chariot, they are not found when searched for. Without analyzing what is different from this analysis, but through the way of worldly convention, these phenomena exist. For example, a pot has parts, and shards, etc., are its parts. A pot has qualities, and bluish-green, etc., are its qualities. A pot is an entity, and a bulging belly, drooping mouth, and long neck, etc., are its nature. The same applies to woolen cloth, etc. Desire is a special attachment, arising from the mind (307b). Attachment is the mind or person that is the basis of desire. Fire is what burns. Firewood is what is burned. Therefore, taking parts as the cause, it is called having parts, and relying on having parts, it is called parts, which is similar to the example of the chariot. Relying on firewood, there is fire, and relying on fire, there is firewood. Similarly, objects and subjects, phenomena and their nature, etc., all phenomena established in dependence are merely worldly designations, and cannot withstand rational analysis. Therefore, it should be understood that the two truths are not contradictory. Second, showing that cause and effect are merely mutually dependent. Refuting that cause and effect exist as substantial entities. First, two situations: the real and the unacceptable if not. The first situation is: If the cause produces the effect, if it produces, then it is the cause; if the cause does not produce the effect, then the effect does not exist, and the cause becomes causeless. If the effect has a cause, then it will arise, therefore, just as parts, etc., are established by dependent imputation, similarly, cause and effect are also established by dependent imputation. Because, if the cause produces the effect, if it produces, then it is the cause; if the cause does not produce the effect, then because the effect does not exist, the name of the cause becomes causeless, because there is no reason to establish the cause as a cause, and if everything is a cause, then everything will become a cause. Therefore, whether it is a cause or not depends on whether it produces an effect or not.
