Because they consider it to arise from the defilement of the earth. In particular, the Jonangpas assert that the self of ultimate truth is permanent, and the imputed self of conventional truth is completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn. This assertion merely negates the unexamined self of conventional fame, and by examining and proving that such a dharma is completely non-existent in ultimate truth, they place limitless accusations on both truths, and without hesitation, they leisurely wander on the great precipice of the extremes of permanence and annihilation. This situation has never been heard of in this Dharma school before. Zilong Shakya asserts that the non-dual wisdom is the self, and that the Buddha's (304a) state is the self of supreme wisdom, which seems to be because the Mind-Only school considers other-powered nature to be the self and agrees with their view, so they say that. However, even though the Mind-Only school sets the basis of imputation for a person as other-powered nature, they do not say that the person imputed in that way is the other-powered nature that is the basis of imputation, which is just a confused statement of not understanding. Some adherents of this system again say without hesitation: Looking at what is the self as the self, because the way of grasping the meaning is not mistaken, it will not become an object to be abandoned such as obscurations; looking at what is not the self as the self, because the meaning and the way of grasping the meaning do not agree, it will become an object to be abandoned such as obscurations. Therefore, the five aggregates of the conventionally imputed grasping and grasped are not the self, and clinging to them as the self is the root of samsara; however, the ultimate non-dual wisdom is the self, so looking at it as the self is the supreme cause for attaining enlightenment and liberation. And, attaining liberation is also the accomplishment of the state of that very self. As it is said: When emptiness is pure, because one obtains the supreme self of no-self, because one obtains the pure self of the Buddha, one becomes the self of the great self. And, the self and no-self, the cessation of elaboration, is the sacred self. Because it is said so. To say so is to speak perversely from the words of the Sugata. The meaning of those scriptures is that the Buddha manifested the way of no-self and emptiness, and to forcibly जोड़ना that "he manifested the self", when the noble ones understood the freedom from elaboration, they placed the name of self on the freedom from elaboration and declared it in that way.

And because it appears without the slightest attachment; if there were a truly existent self, one would either never be liberated from samsara or would be liberated effortlessly. Because that truly existent self would bind some beings to samsara at will, and liberate others to nirvana, etc., it would perform various acts of binding and liberation. Because you also believe that the truly established self, unlike the conventional self, possesses the power of autonomy that is consistent with meaning. If there were a truly existent self, then it would contradict the seal of the Blessed One's teachings that all phenomena encompassing the two truths are without self. Furthermore, if the non-dual wisdom were the truly existent self, then even if someone were to regard it as self again, it would not become a cause of liberation. Because those who have a conventional view of self do not look at it that way, while those who have a ultimate view of self, even if they do not look at it that way, it is because it is the ultimate self that has already been established as liberation. Those who have a conventional view of self, because you do not even exist in name, so even if they look at it that way, they will not attain liberation even in name only. And because you also believe that that very non-dual wisdom is also the ground and path of learning and non-learning, it must also be said that the path and the person are of the same basis. If so, one must admit that the object to be traversed is the traverser itself. And if the truly non-dual (305a) wisdom itself is established as the nature of the Buddha from the beginning, then to say again that it is newly obtained by the Buddha as the nature of the Buddha, in the world there is no one more foolish than the one who says this, this is the sign of abandoning a great curse placed like the sun and the moon. In short, when explaining this system, in the face of unexamined error, just as sentient beings etc. exist, so does the self; if examined, just as the self does not exist, so sentient beings etc. do not exist. Moreover, just as in name there exist pots and cloths, forests, etc., so does the self; if examined, just as the self does not exist, know that all phenomena are free from all elaboration of existence and non-existence, etc. The second is: Because it is not real, therefore this is not dependent; because it is not non-dependent, therefore this is not arising and ceasing; permanence etc. are also not present in this; it is neither the same nor different.
