If someone believes that the self, which is permanent, singular, and independent, exists outside the aggregates; and believes that the self and sentient beings are impermanent and exist within the aggregates. Then, refuting the former self, it is thought that the latter self is also refuted, which is shameful. Although he did not explicitly say that refuting the former self refutes the latter self. However, because your tenet is wrong, no matter how you establish the boundary of whether or not self-view is refuted, in the face of the worldly conventional truth that is commonly accepted, it is from whether or not self and self-view are refuted on the aggregates that it is determined whether or not selflessness is realized. It is not from whether or not self and mine are refuted on objects other than the aggregates that it is determined whether or not the selflessness of the person is realized, because this is reasonable, so it is considered reasonable here. Regarding the meaning of this treatise, the statements of the great Eastern Tsongkhapa and Matazi arguing have been recorded, but these do not seem to have touched even a fraction of the point of this treatise, so their debates should also be treated neutrally. The second point is: Clearly seeing a snake's nest in the wall crack of one's own house, yet dispelling doubts by saying there is no elephant here, thereby eliminating the fear of snakes, alas, this simply becomes a laughingstock for others. For example, someone clearly sees a snake's nest in the wall crack of his own house, yet dispels doubts by saying there is no elephant here, thereby eliminating the fear of snakes, alas, this simply becomes a laughingstock for others, becoming an object of ridicule for the discerning. Just as that person confidently thinks there are no snakes, but is bitten by a snake, even if the permanent self is refuted, if the self-view that takes the aggregates as its object is not refuted, one will still wander in samsara due to karma and afflictions. Here, if we transform the object of refutation of the Eastern Tsongkhapa's argument and say: When selflessness is realized, the self of true existence is abandoned, and it is not considered the basis of self-grasping, therefore, it is very strange to say that self-view can be completely eradicated by the view of selflessness. Clearly seeing a snake's nest in the wall crack of one's own house, yet dispelling doubts by saying there is no elephant here, thereby eliminating the fear of snakes, alas, this simply becomes a laughingstock for others. This is how it is ridiculed. The third point is: Whether or not there is a self on the aggregates,

Also to me. Why are those aggregates not here? If there is otherness, then this conceptualization will arise here. Because there is no otherness, therefore this is a conceptualization. I am not dependent on the aggregates, and those aggregates are not dependent on me either. Because if there is otherness here like a plate and yogurt, then a conceptualization of the dependent and the depended upon will arise. Because I and the aggregates are not other, therefore the dependence on them is established by conceptualization. The fourth is: I do not wish to possess form, why? Because I do not exist, therefore there is no meaning of possessing. If it is other, like Devadatta possessing a cow, if it is not other, like Devadatta possessing form, I am neither the same nor other than form. I do not wish to have a relationship with form and other aggregates, because I do not exist, therefore, there is no meaning of my having a relationship with the aggregates. If the meaning of possessing is other, like Devadatta possessing a cow, or if it is not other, like Devadatta possessing form, then I am neither the same nor other than form and other aggregates, because it has been said before. Fifth, it shows the number of ways in which the object of the view of annihilation operates incorrectly. Combining it with the way in which the wisdom vajra destroys it with scripture. The first is: Form is not me, I am not possessing form. I do not exist in form, and form does not exist in me. Like this, all aggregates should be understood in four ways. Those views that regard them as me are called twenty views of annihilation. Form is not me, because the nature of me and form is inconsistent, and it will lead to the agent and the action being the same. Just like a person wearing a necklace, I am also not possessing form, because they are neither the same nor other. Just like a lion in the forest, I also do not exist in form as the dependent, following and abiding in it. Just like trees on a snowy mountain, form and other things are also not existing in me as the dependent, able to be controlled by me, because there is no otherness between them. Like this, it should be understood through four ways that all the aggregates that are the basis of names are selfless. For the five aggregates that are devoid of me, the view of annihilation will be reversed, grasping them in four ways of clinging, these are called twenty views of self or views of annihilation. Then, in the treatise it says: not aggregates, not other than aggregates. (293b) That is to say, other than aggregates.
