and dharma and non-dharma (283b) and the power of conditioned things. Gradually grasping objects, желать அனுபவ境, returning from that. Hoping for desirable things, turning away from undesirable objects. Arising from knowing higher realms and definite goodness, as well as their opposites, the activities of my qualities, which become the cause of knowing, are ninefold. When these nine qualities gather in me, it is called samsara for the purpose of accomplishing virtuous and non-virtuous actions. When, at any time, the powers of a person, etc., are realized as suffering, and when the qualities such as wisdom and their roots are severed, I myself become a state of being without qualities, existing alone. Therefore, it is called liberation. This self is also constant, is the agent, is the enjoyer, possesses qualities, is of the nature of non-mind, is pervasive, and therefore it is said to be without action. Some say that it has the function of contraction and expansion. The Vaisheshika school says that, like the space in different containers such as pots, I am one, but appear diverse due to different bodies. Among them, the Samkhya, Vaisheshika, Secret, Naked, Mimamsa, and Victory-proclaiming schools, etc., consider me to be knowledge, while the Vaisheshika, Knower, etc., consider me to be matter, and the Lokayata consider the body and life to be of the same essence. Furthermore, the Samkhya, Vaisheshika, Knower, etc. (284a) consider me to be permanent, while the Naked, Mimamsa, and Victory-proclaiming schools, etc., consider the nature to be permanent, but the state to be impermanent, and the Lokayata consider it to be permanent from birth to death, and then to be annihilated. Secondly, there are four points: refuting the nature of the self, refuting the distinctions, it is not reasonable to be other than the aggregates, and showing that it is not the basis of self-grasping. First: Like the child of a barren woman, because it is separate from birth. Such a self does not exist, nor should it be the basis of this self-grasping, nor should it be admitted to exist in the conventional sense. The self that is now said to be constant and an enjoyer, etc., does not exist, because it is separate from birth. Such a self should not be the basis of the innate self-grasping of the world, because it does not conform to its way of grasping.

Because. Not only does this not exist in the ultimate truth, but it is also not desired to be the object of innate self-grasping in the conventional truth, because it is not recognized as such. Like the child of a barren woman. The same analogy is applied to the above. Second, because of the difference between treatises and treatises, whatever the non-Buddhists say, all those, self-proclaimed unborn, are harmed by reason. Therefore, all those differences do not exist. All the differences of that self do not exist, because whatever differences of that self, such as Sapo, permanent, real, etc., are said by the non-Buddhists in their respective treatises and treatises, all those are harmed by the self-proclaimed unborn syllogism. The meaning of the words is, I am not permanent, because I am unborn. Like the child of a barren woman. Such reason and analogy harm all the differences of the self. Third, therefore, there is no self other than the aggregates, because apart from the aggregates, holding it is not established. Because of that reason, there is no self other than the aggregates, if there is a self different from the aggregates, it will become possible to be separately grasped (284b). Because apart from the aggregates, holding that self distinguished by permanence etc. is not established. Fourth, teaching. Two explanations. The first is, the basis of the worldly self-grasping mind is also not desired, because even the non-knowing are regarded as self. Not only is there no self different from the aggregates, but also that self distinguished by permanence etc. is not the basis or object of the self-grasping mind, the innate view of self, of worldly beings, because even ignorant children regard such a self as permanent etc. as me and mine due to the power of manifest habituation. Second, those beings who have wandered in the lower realms for many kalpas, they have not seen this unborn permanent self, and attachment is also seen in those self-grasps, therefore, there is no self other than the aggregates. If even now one does not understand the self distinguished by permanence etc., but thinks that there is self-grasping with that self as its object due to previous habituation, then it is not so, showing that there is no other self different from the aggregates, those beings who have been born continuously in the lower realms for many kalpas, and still wander there for a long time without returning
