Since it is impossible to abandon, one should acknowledge a perishable entity as the basis of karma and its result, and the self that is the basis of karma and the perishable entity that is its basis. (279a) Then, are the two bases of karma and its result one or different? If they are one, then all entities would necessarily become persons who perform the basis of karma and its result. You yourselves acknowledge that all destructions of entities are entities, and if a destroyed entity can be the person who is the basis of karma and its result, then there is no harm in that destroyed entity being it, and there is equal proof. The first reason is acknowledged, the second is established by valid cognition. If you accept, then all entities will become persons, which will become an unprecedented good saying. If they are different, then when a person commits an act of killing, that person's continuum will receive two karmas and two results, because the self that has become the basis of karma and its result, and the karma of the perishable entity that is the basis of its basis, are accumulated separately, and the results will also arise separately in the same way. This is not established, because when a person accumulates karma, the two are combined and only one karma is accumulated. So, is such karma partless or partful? If it is the former, then the karma done jointly by the two bases will not become a part, because the karma is partless. If you accept, then the karma was not done by the parts of the two bases. If it is the latter, then the karma is not one, because there are separate parts done by the two bases. In particular, the Prasangika Madhyamikas must necessarily acknowledge the self that must be acknowledged in their own system, and the self that is the object of negation of the reason, these two, making a total of three selves. Apart from some of the Sthavira Nikaya and the Mahasamghika of one's own (279b) school, it does not appear that way in the scriptures of any of one's own schools. Moreover, your establishing what the glorious Chandrakirti refuted in this treatise, would that not be a good explanation of the glorious Chandrakirti's treatise? Although lower schools of one's own that speak of the self of the person that must be acknowledged have appeared in the past, among those who claim to be Mahayanists, acknowledging the self of the person has not appeared before you in this Sino-Tibetan region, therefore, if you and your followers establish a basis, then the saying that "non-self" is not abandoned, which is known like the wind throughout the entire Buddhist world, is not pervasive, because the self that must be acknowledged is the basis and is the self.

Therefore, Jamyang (འཇམ་དབྱངས) has given instructions on the uncommon tenets of the Prasangika Madhyamaka! Therefore, the large volumes should be compiled again, because the tenets need to be unified. If the basis is established, then it is necessary to establish the principle that the non-self cannot be removed, alas! Here it is said: Whatever beings have spent many eons in the animal realm, they have not seen the self that is the basis of karma and its results, but they also see the behavior of self-grasping in them, therefore, there is no self other than the aggregates. This also needs to be considered! Moreover, you should also admit the dharma of the existing self and the non-existent self in the knowable. Because you admit both the self to be refuted and the self to be accepted, and you think that the former does not exist even in the knowable. The sign has been accepted, and the pervasion has been established. If you admit it, that's great, because all your own tenets (༢༨༠ན) will be unified and firm. Also, if you think that the self to be refuted is not a dharma, then the self to be refuted does not have the characteristic of generating self-grasping. From having characteristics and not having characteristics, which one can be established as dharma and non-dharma? Because the self to be refuted in the sign has not been established as a dharma. If you admit it, then the subject of the sign, the self to be refuted, is not the object to be refuted in the sign. Because it is not the dharma that generates self-grasping. Also, you conceptually impute the real dharma that serves as the basis of karma and its results, which is established by the valid cognition of ordinary people, birds, and wild animals. If you are not satisfied with the mere existence of imputation, and if you seek the meaning of such imputation, then that is going to the investigation of reality, which is the uncommon examination of the Prasangika. If you say that, then the dependent arising of conventional truth, which is widely known in the world, and the dependent arising of worldly convention, which the perfect Buddha and the teacher Nagarjuna have clearly explained in terms of language, will not need to be understood by sentient beings through the flawless reasoning of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Because the meaning of the conventional in dependent arising is the dharma that arises in dependence on imputation, and all ordinary people know that the basis of karma and its results is merely imputation, and they know that they are doing their work in front of it, and just that much
