As if there is or isn't an opportunity to observe, having understood this unreality, When one examines what is to be examined in various ways, That discriminating wisdom also has no basis. Since there is no basis, discriminating wisdom does not arise, That which is unborn is also called nirvana. At that time, the conventional truth established by valid cognition, In order to eliminate extremes of nihilism, From true emptiness, there is no denying its function, Will it remain as a legacy, or will all beings think about all actions? Thus it is said. Explanation of the Absence of Self of a Person. When extensively explaining the absence of self of a person and the emptiness of phenomena. Secondly, the reason why the self of a person must be refuted. The reasons for refuting it are explained extensively. After refuting, it is shown that a person is merely imputed in dependence, in three points. The first is: All afflictions and faults without exception, Arise from the view of the aggregates; Having realized that the self is the object of this, The yogi refutes the self. After refuting the self of phenomena with scripture and reasoning, now to refute the self of a person, the yogi who desires liberation should refute the self that is the object of the clinging of the view of the aggregates, because all afflictions such as desire and faults such as birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, etc., arise entirely from the view of the aggregates, which is the defiled wisdom that clings to "I" and "mine" (page 272b). Having seen this with wisdom, it should be refuted. The self is the object of this view of the aggregates. Generally speaking, without refuting the object of clinging to the self, one cannot refute the subject. The sutra says: "All afflictions have the view of the aggregates as their root, the view of the aggregates as their cause, and the view of the aggregates as their origin." Thus, from the view of the aggregates arise the branches of dependent origination such as actions, which are included in the three afflictions, and the wheel of existence flourishes and revolves for a long time. Therefore, this investigation that abandons the view of the aggregates is the supreme means of accomplishing liberation. Now, starting from the two selflessnesses, what is the self of a person and of phenomena? What is the reasoning for refuting them? How do they not exist? The self of a person refers to the object of clinging of the view of the aggregates that clings to "I" and "mine," which is the self, sentient beings, persons, individuals, life, power-born, power.

And, it is known as the feeler and so on. Among them, there are two types of objects: the object of innate view of self and the object of imputed view of self. The first is: without relying on bad spiritual friends and bad tenets, etc., from beginningless time, due to the complete familiarity with the habit of clinging to self and what belongs to self, focusing on the aggregates, thinking "I am, I am the self, this is mine, it belongs to me", even birds and wild animals will arise, which is called innate view of self. (273a) Its object is the self of the object of innate view of self, which is not established by tenets. There are also three types of objects of imputed view of self: other non-Buddhists impute things other than the aggregates as permanent, single, independent, etc.; some of the Mahasamghikas impute the aggregates or the nature of mind as self; the Sthavira-putras see no difference between the aggregates and itself and others; The great Tsongkhapa believes that the self established on the aggregates that are not mixed with the self to be refuted by reasoning is the self established by name and measure. Clinging to these is called imputed view of self, which is not spontaneously arising from the habit of beginningless time, but because of hearing, thinking, and meditating on bad spiritual friends and inverted tenets, etc., it is newly fabricated by thought. The object of their clinging is the self of the object of imputed view of self. The self of phenomena is: the phenomena from the form aggregate to the omniscient wisdom, which are included in the aggregates, elements, and sources that are not persons, are clung to by worldly people and tenet proponents as their own nature and differences, permanence and impermanence, etc. If divided, there are two types: imputed and innate. The reasoning that refutes these, as explained in the scriptures, is the reasoning that refutes the self of non-Buddhists, Mahasamghikas, and Sthavira-putras, etc., and the reasoning that refutes the self of phenomena is as previously explained. Among them (273b) The self that becomes the object of innate view of self exists only in name if not examined, because it is seen that all sentient beings clearly cling to "I am" and "it is mine". The object of imputation is the wrong tenet.
