Are these established schools of thought? According to those schools, all the terms of samsara and nirvana cannot be established. If it exists by its own nature, it cannot be changed; if it does not exist, it is free from action and agent. Therefore, with regard to the two truths, the conceptualizations of clinging to existence and clinging to non-existence cannot be abandoned. Moreover, the two truths cannot be the subject and the nature of phenomena, because what exists cannot be the subject and nature of non-existence, and what does not exist cannot be the subject and nature of existence. Therefore, those who seek liberation must abandon both clinging to existence and clinging to non-existence, because without abandoning these, liberation cannot be attained. Considering this, the Bhagavan (Shakyamuni Buddha) also stated in all the scriptures of the Greater and Lesser Vehicles, such as the Mother of the Victorious Ones, the King of Samadhi, the Jewel Heap, the Lankavatara, and the teachings to Katyayana, that both views of clinging to existence and clinging to non-existence should be abandoned. The teacher (Nagarjuna) also stated in all the treatises that both of these should be abandoned. As it is said in the Root Verses: "Those of little intelligence who see things as either existent or non-existent will not see the peace of near quiescence." And as it is said in the Precious Garland: "Those who are frightened by the absence of inherent existence are delighted in existence. From clinging to existence and non-existence, the unwise are destroyed." And: "Those who are non-existent go to bad destinies, those who are existent go to good destinies. Because of fully knowing things as they are, one becomes liberated without relying on either." And as it is said in the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning: "By existence, one is not liberated; by non-existence, one is not born from this existence. By fully knowing existence and non-existence, the great being is liberated." And as it is said in the Praise of the Inconceivable: "To say 'it exists' is to see permanence; to say 'it does not exist' is to see annihilation. Therefore, you have taught the Dharma that is free from the two extremes. Therefore (268b) the Dharmas are free from the four extremes, therefore the Buddha has spoken. Since consciousness is also not existent, how can there be an object of speech?" And so forth, relying on the extensively appearing scriptural and logical proofs, through faith and attention, the view of clinging to existence and non-existence is prohibited, thereby generating discriminating wisdom. For the meaning of understanding that all Dharmas are without inherent existence, one should single-mindedly abide in meditative quiescence.

Through enhancing the practice of Vipassanā's view and meditation, when the accumulation of purification reaches its ultimate point, one will attain complete and perfect enlightenment. In summary: Through the Vipassanā of beings, and after familiarizing oneself with Śamatha, one can be liberated from the bonds of the lower realms and the bonds of signs. Thus it is said. Therefore, in order to attain liberation and omniscience, the most supreme cause is to realize all phenomena as devoid of inherent existence, and through hearing, thinking, and meditating, generate the wisdom of individual self-awareness that can realize this. One must destroy all the delusions of the two obscurations, such as clinging to all phenomena as having inherent existence. This is the ultimate intention explained in this treatise. Second, there are three parts: 1. The main text; 2. Refuting disputes; 3. Abandoning attachment and aversion and examining properly. First: The treatise says, 'Because of attachment to debate, it was not composed; it was taught for the sake of liberation.' In the Madhyamaka treatises of the teacher, the extensive examination with many collections of reasoning was not done because of attachment to debate, wanting to refute the speech of others. Then, what is it? From that, extensive examination is to declare the suchness, if all beings could understand the nature of reality, thereby attaining liberation, how wonderful it would be! It is taught for the sake of beings attaining liberation. Second: If one explains the reality, and destroys other doctrines, there is no fault. If you think that the opponent refutes all investigations, and for the sake of debate, only the reversal of conceptualization is established as the result, that is not right. Although the examination is not for the sake of debate, if one explains the reality through examination, other doctrines will not be able to stand because they are devoid of reason, just as a vajra destroys a rocky mountain, we have no fault. In the Hundred Verses it says: 'This Dharma was spoken by the Tathāgatas, not for the sake of debate, but like fire burns firewood, it burns the opponent's adversaries.' Third: Attachment to one's own view, and similarly, anger towards the views of others, are both conceptualizations. Therefore, abandoning desire and anger, and examining properly, one will quickly attain liberation. If one teaches the Dharma for the sake of debating with strong attachment and aversion to one's own and others' schools, it is impossible to prevent conceptualization.
