External objects do not exist; if they did, they would have to be directly perceived, but they are not directly perceived. Is the non-directly perceived itself directly perceived? Or how is it known to be non-directly perceived? If it is directly perceived, then the other world, which does not exist as an object, should be directly perceived, because the other world that is not manifest is directly perceived. If you accept this, then even non-existent things should be objects for you, because they are directly perceived, just like objects. If you accept this, then objects should also be non-existent, because there is nothing that is called non-existent, and if there is no connection, the connected cannot be established. If you accept this, then the existence of elements as objects and the non-existence of the other world as objects are not reasonable, because objects and non-existent objects do not exist. If what is not directly perceived is known from the sign of not being directly perceived, then how can it not be inferred that the other world does not exist through not apprehending it? If the other world that is not directly perceived is itself not directly perceived, then nothing has apprehended the non-existence of the other world. This is not established, because it is apprehended through inference. Then your inference of the other world from the signs of happiness and suffering in this life is unreasonable, like the history before the wolf's tracks, so inference is impossible, and what is reached is only the scope of sensory perception, which is unreasonable, because inference establishes the non-existence of the other world. Therefore, for those who slander the other world, refutations should be stated in this way. For example, when two non-existent moons appear in the sky to eyes deluded by cataracts, just as the appearance of hairs and flies, etc., are also non-existent, similarly, the elements of earth, etc., are the cause of all internal and external objects, and what makes the earth, etc., which become the object of your Carvaka's consciousness, if the earth, etc., are not the cause of knowledge, then external stones, etc., should have consciousness, and along with it, there should be breathing, etc. From where does the Carvaka arise to be the cause of knowledge?

Due to the power of thick darkness of ignorance, how can one who says that such a manifest world exists truly realize the other world, which is extremely subtle and becomes the object of divine vision? It is impossible to realize. Because without abandoning wrong views, right views cannot arise. Secondly, to explain the inference known to others, and two unestablished examples. The first is: When refuting the other world, the self is: It should be understood as viewing the nature of knowable things in a reversed way, because the basis of that view's form is the same, due to having a body. When one asserts that the nature of arising from earth, etc., exists, it is the same. The materialists hold earth and other phenomena to be true, and also hold that there is no other world. To this, it should be said: When refuting and saying that there is no other world, the materialist himself is the subject. It should be understood as viewing the nature of knowable things, that is, reality and convention, in a reversed way, thus becoming one with reversed views. Because the basis of the cause that can form the form of reversed views has the same share, that is, due to having the same body. When one asserts that the nature of arising from earth, etc., is not real but real, then it is like having the same body as the basis of the form of wrong views. Secondly: How those arising are not existent has already been explained. Because previously, arising from self, other, and both, and arising without a cause have been commonly refuted. These unmentioned arisings, see them as non-existent. If one says that the example of the same basis of the form of arising with true views is not established, because one has not turned away from the true view of arising from earth, etc., or has not given rise to doubt, then there is no need to establish a similar example of the absence of truth and arising in arising, because we have already said how those arising do not exist in the nature of truth. Because previously, the arising of all things from self, other, and both, and arising without a cause have been commonly refuted. For these unmentioned arisings without inherent nature, my arising, etc., are generally true.
