It is accomplished as the most excellent. So, what is the meaning of the three natures spoken of in all the sutras? I, a Madhyamika, think like this: For example, a snake is established in relation to the coiling of a rope, but that which is established as a snake does not exist on the coiling of the rope. The real snake, the snake is completely established, because the snake is established as a snake, therefore its expression is all-pervasive. Similarly (249b), the nature of things is also, although it does not exist in the dependent arising of other-powered conditioned phenomena as a subject of law, it is all-pervasively conceived. If it exists, then the nature is not a false establishment, but must have an uncreated, self-sufficient nature. But in fact it is not so. Even those who have not examined the world think that the nature of gold, etc., is established as having the nature of gold only in the uncreated nature of gold such as Salay Sabram. Just as copper is not regarded as gold, and false creations are not regarded as gold, this is to show the measure of other common claims. Because it is said in the sutra: Nature is uncreated and does not depend on others. Whatever has nature cannot be created by others. Therefore, the other-powered, created by dependent arising, like being grasped2, like an image, does not exist in things, it has both the emptiness of perfect reality and the nature of other-powered consciousness. The Vijnanavada school believes that all-pervasive conception is the law, and all-pervasive conception does not exist in its nature in this way. Although if one examines the uncreated emptiness of perfect reality, it is not established, but if one does not examine, then the nature is, in the realm of wisdom seen by the Buddha with the ultimate truth, not created by other-powered dependent arising, nor established by all-pervasive conception. Moreover, the nature of other-powered consciousness cannot be established whether it is examined or not, because it has been widely refuted. Therefore, in that (250a), only that which is not established is called Buddha. Not touching the law of consciousness of other-powered conditioned phenomena, that is, not grasping the part of the play of characteristics of that other-powered thing, for all phenomena, in the nature of the emptiness of the nature of things, without examining, as it is called in the world, from form to omniscience.

All phenomena in between manifest the suchness that is solely the nature of emptiness, and therefore one can comprehend it. Because no self-nature is ascertained in dependent origination and other conditioned phenomena, the wisdom of the Buddha does not perceive any self-nature in them. Such an establishment is reasonable in the unexamined world, because it does not contradict worldly fame. The way in which the Mind-Only school establishes the three natures and the self-nature of things is unreasonable not only in the ultimate truth, but also in the unexamined conventional truth, because such a truly established self-nature also contradicts worldly valid cognition. When the Madhyamaka school examines, it does not say that emptiness, the ultimate truth, is the self-nature of conditioned phenomena, because if it were said that way, then the extensive negation of the two truths having self-nature would become meaningless, and if no self-nature becomes self-nature, then there would be no more absurd statement than that, just like saying that the horn of a rabbit without horns is the horn of a rabbit. Therefore, if the three natures are established without examination, then conventional dependent origination is dependent origination, because in name, it is said to arise in dependence on causes and conditions (250b). Self-nature, reality, suchness, the nature of being unconditioned, and things and consciousness, etc., are all completely imputed, because such superimpositions are made on the phenomena of conventional dependent origination. Emptiness, the ultimate truth, is the perfectly established, because from the perspective of relative imputation, if the false, conditioned is established as conventional, then the unconditioned, the unconditioned, is seen as ultimate, which is said to be the meaning of the sutras only in a way that does not contradict worldly agreement. The Mind-Only school says: unreal imagination or mere consciousness is dependent origination, the apprehended and the apprehender are completely imputed, and that which is empty of dependent origination and completely imputed is said to be perfectly established. That is unreasonable, because it contradicts the three natures that are accepted, because even in name, apart from the illusory dependent origination of dependent origination, which is known in the world, the valid cognition that appears does not ascertain the nature of the completely imputed and the perfectly established. Establishing the perfectly established as the unchanging nature on dependent origination becomes completely imputed.
