Now, the objects of others' independence cannot be accomplished by blocking them. Third, therefore, with such a sequence, things from the very beginning, that nature is unborn, the world is born, should be known. Therefore, all things are unborn from that nature from the very beginning, and it should be known that they are born only in worldly terms; because of what is said, because it is accomplished by such a sequence of reasoning. Second, the mind-only spoken in the sutras is shown to be provisional. The reasoning of its proof is explained. Incidentally, the distinction between definitive and provisional is shown, there are three points. The first is: In which sutra is it said that external appearances do not exist, but the mind appears in various forms? For those who are extremely attached to form, transforming the form, that is also provisional. Also, the meaning of the Ten Bhumi Sutra, although it may be allowed to be explained in that way, it is certain that it is mind-only in other sutras. As it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "External appearances exist or do not exist, the mind appears in various forms, body and enjoyment, dwelling place, I say are only mind." Among them, the body refers to the eyes, etc., the object refers to forms, etc., and the dwelling place refers to the container world. If it is said that there is no reality outside the mind, but the mind itself appears as the body, etc., this is the mind appearing as different from the external object, so are the three realms only mind? Where does the sutra say that external objects do not exist, but the mind itself appears as various forms such as the body, this is with intention. The intention is that, for those who create great sins because of attachment to form, and fall away from the two accumulations, in order to abandon attachment, etc. caused by form, as the all-knowing one said, one should meditate on ugliness, that is, transforming the form (༢༤༤ན). Because it is not shown there to transform that thought and show the existence of mind, but because that sutra is also declared to be provisional. Second, there are two proofs: scriptural proof and logical proof. First, there is the proof that this sutra is provisional. From this, it also shows that other similar sutras are also provisional, there are two. The first is: This is the teacher saying it is provisional, this should also be provisional by reason. This sutra, as explained below, as the teacher said in the Lankavatara Sutra, is provisional, this should also be explained by reason.

Here, it is reasonable with reason. Secondly, even other sutras of that kind are clarified as provisional by this scriptural authority. Not only is this sutra provisional, but also that kind of sutra which shows the appearance of a true self, as expressed by the words that the Mind-Only school considers definitive, is the unexamined nature in the Noble Explanatory Sutra, etc., as well as the nature of other-dependence, and the nature of perfect accomplishment. As it is said: "The consciousness of grasping is extremely deep and subtle, all seeds flow like a river, it is not appropriate to grasp it as self, therefore I have not shown it to children." And many other scriptures also say: Just as a doctor gives medicine to a sick person, so too does the Buddha speak of Mind-Only to sentient beings. Etc., this scriptural authority clarifies it as provisional. Because the Teacher speaks of Mind-Only, it is also spoken in reliance on the differences in the intentions of the beings to be tamed. Just as a doctor uses poison as medicine because of the different conditions of the disease. Therefore, for those who cling to reality, if from the beginning all things are denied as existing by their own nature (p. 244b), they will be afraid and not enter the teachings, so in order to get them to enter, things are shown as if they exist by their own nature. As it is said: "Whatever one likes in whatever, that should be said first to that one, the vessel of the sacred Dharma that deteriorates, is certainly not that." Because there is such a saying. Therefore, in the Lankavatara Sutra, Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati, through questions and answers, shows the Tathagatagarbha as permanent, self, real, maker, without qualities, pervasive, and indestructible. Because there is this necessity, it is said to be provisional, which is quoted in detail in the self-commentary from "The Blessed One" to "should follow non-self," please refer to it there. The meaning is this: The Tathagatagarbha, permanent, substantial, real, empty, from the three of intention, necessity, and harm to reality, the necessity is: in order to gradually guide the beings to be tamed who cling to reality, as has already been said. Especially the types of beings to be tamed. As it is said: "Those who are timid, despise inferior beings, have wrong views, and slander the true Dharma, the five faults of excessive attachment to self, whoever has them, it is said that they should be abandoned." As it is shown.
