said that those such as the person and the chief were the agents, and that our own school also designated the person, attainment, non-decay, and the basis of all as agents, since they did not regard them as agents even in name, in name the Victorious One said that mind-only (239b) is the agent of the world, which is the meaning of the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra. The word "only" has the meaning of refuting other agents, which the teacher Lekden also explained in the Blaze of Reasoning. The term "tīrthika" can be applied to all logicians who accept the inherent nature of things as agents, because their understanding of the meaning of the teachings is contrary to the actual meaning, like the outsiders. The teacher Candrakīrti considered that these realists of Buddhism are also not true Buddhists. However, some Tibetan Buddhists consider that the unconditioned element of the tathāgatagarbha is the agent of all phenomena of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa; in name, the person and the individual are the basis and agent of karmic results; they consider the indestructible realists to be the uninterrupted agents of the karmic relationship established by name and measure; they consider the pure, indestructible, and three-characteristic things to be the nature, pervader, and gatherer and disperser of all phenomena of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, according to this view, these people are consistent with the meaning of the tīrthikas and can be classified as tīrthikas, some also say this. Therefore, whether it is our own school or another, how can it be proven that those who say this are tīrthikas? It can be proven by the teachings of the complete and perfect Buddha and Nāgārjuna, etc. As it says in the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra: "Those who think of things as arising from conditions, as existing or not existing, those with tīrthika views, should be known to be far from the teachings." It also says: "My teachings will be destroyed, wearing the robes of a monk, saying that there is fruit or no fruit, will arise in the future." Also, as it says in the Ratnāvalī: "Those who say that a person is an aggregate, the world's Sāṃkhya owl, naked and bound, if destroyed, say that there is or is not, therefore the Buddhas said that all phenomena are, superior to existence and non-existence, the profound Dharma of quiescence, should be known as the treasure of Dharma." It can be known from these and other scriptures. Therefore, regarding the aggregates, etc.

To examine through sectarianism and cling to permanence and annihilation is to be known as the way of outsiders. These heretics who have gone astray in this way regard the creator of the beginning and end of samsara as true, and do not understand the meaning of selflessness, so now, as it appears, there are naked monks, or white-robed or gray-robed ascetics, who regard the aggregates as the creator. Secondly, it is divided into three parts: brief indication, detailed explanation, and summary of meaning. The first part is: Just as one calls a Buddha one who has expanded his mind on that very reality, so too, in the world where mind is the main thing, the sutra says "only mind," and if one denies form, that is not the meaning of the sutra. It shows that the word "only" negates the agent, but it is definitely not negating the existence of the external object of knowledge. Just as one calls a Buddha one who has expanded his mind on that very reality, omitting the previous words, so too, in the world where mind is the main thing, because it negates that form and others are the main things, it is omitted (the others), and the sutra says that the creator of the three realms is only mind, but it is not saying that there is only mind, and that form is not here, and if one denies that, it is not the meaning of the sutra (240b). Secondly, it is divided into three aspects: if the formless mind is true, it contradicts the sutra; the reason why mind is the main thing; and the reason why form is not the main thing. The first aspect is: If you know that these are only mind, and therefore deny form, then why does the Great Self again say that mind is born from ignorance and karma? It shows that the meaning of the sutra should be spoken like me, the Madhyamika. Like you, if these three realms are only mind, and mind is a dharma that is truly established in the ultimate truth, then, knowing this, if you deny form from the Tenth Bhumi Sutra, then why does the complete Buddha, the Great Self, say again from that sutra that consciousness is born from ignorance, ignorance, and the karma of action? It should not be said that way, because if consciousness is established in the ultimate truth by its own nature, it does not depend on the causes and conditions of ignorance and action. Therefore, mind is not self-existent, but changes according to the presence or absence of the reversed conditions of ignorance and action.
