It is impossible to establish the category of terms by just talking, alas, alas. According to the view of other Vijnanavada schools, other-dependent nature is not real, but they cling to the idea that it exists. Therefore, for all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, they cling to the idea that it is the cause even though it is not the cause. If they say this, then all the categories of terms that are known in the world, such as "sit down, go away," etc., will be destroyed, because the activities of going and staying, etc., of the categories of terms produced by other-dependent nature (232b) are impossible in the world. If you think, "What does it matter if it is destroyed?" then if you misuse the immediate reputation of good and bad, it will turn into ruin, because you will not even be able to obtain higher realms. Second, the path of Master Nagarjuna: There is no method of pacification for those who have become external. Those conventional truths are lost from the truth. By losing that, liberation cannot be achieved. Therefore, the path of establishing the two truths by Master Nagarjuna, for those who have become external, who arbitrarily fabricate with conceptual thought for the sake of liberation, and who speak of Vijnana, atoms, persons, and Ishvara, etc., from the Vijnanavada to the Carvaka, there is no method of pacification. Because, if you analyze Vijnana, etc., with reason, you will find that they are other-dependent natures that are conceptually fabricated, and as for self and Ishvara, etc., not to mention in the ultimate sense, even in conventional terms, those that are not commonly known in the world are established as existing according to their own tenets. Because they do not conform to the world, they are lost from the conventional truth, and because they speak in a way that does not conform to the views of the noble ones, they will be lost from the ultimate truth of reality. If you are lost from the two truths, there is no possibility of achieving liberation, because if you do not use the interdependence of samsara, nirvana, bondage, and liberation of the two truths in the world, then samsara, nirvana, bondage, liberation, etc., in the world will be reversed. Just as the Samkhya school's efforts to establish the path of the two truths were in vain, and liberation became meaningless. Third, conventional truth becomes the means, and ultimate truth becomes the result of the means. If you do not know the distinction between these two, then you have entered the wrong path due to distorted conceptual thought. The reason why you cannot obtain liberation if you are lost from the two truths is that conventional truth is the dependent arising of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases (233a).

The Dharma taught by the perfectly enlightened Buddha is the means to realize the ultimate truth. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: From the Dharma without letters, what is the listener? What is the speaker? By imputing on the unchanging, yet one listens and speaks. Thus it appears. The teaching of the ultimate truth arises from means, that is, it relies on the conventional truth to teach the ultimate, and from understanding that, one attains the ultimate, that is, non-abiding Nirvana. As it is said in the scriptures: Without relying on conventions, one cannot teach the ultimate meaning. Without realizing the ultimate meaning, one will not attain Nirvana. Thus it is said. Here, arising from means, and result, and what is to be attained, and what is to be realized, and the object to be viewed by meditative wisdom, and non-abiding Nirvana are all synonyms. Therefore, those who, like the Mind-Only school, do not understand the distinction between the two truths in this way, according to the Madhyamaka school, have entered the wrong path created by their own distorted thoughts, and are contrary to the intention of the Bhagavan. As it is said in the scriptures: Those who do not know the distinction between these two truths do not know the profound Suchness taught by the Buddha. Thus it is said. The way of establishing the two truths is explained in detail by quoting twelve shlokas and one line of the Arya Definitive Exposition of Suchness Samadhi in the commentary. The meaning of that scripture is this: After refuting the way of establishing the two truths of the substantialists and the Svatantrika school, it explains the nature of the two truths as merely what is accepted by others, according to the Prasangika school. All dharmas are empty of inherent existence and free from elaboration in both truths, but when making statements in conventional terms, without conforming to sectarian proponents and schools, one establishes the six realms of beings and high and low, etc., conventionally, as they are known in the world. Secondly, there are two: avoiding contradiction with the conventional and avoiding contradiction with the scriptures. First, there are three: the way of accepting due to the necessity of the conventional, the way of not accepting if it does not appear to the world, and the way of not being able to refute the conventional in the world. The first is: Just as you accept the other-powered as real, I have not accepted the conventional either. These are nonexistent for the sake of the result.
