2N) The three that are defiled are not like the three of a dream. Therefore, a consciousness without an object is also unreasonable. Secondly, there are two types: actual refutation and refutation of the answer to its fault-finding. Firstly, there are two types: object-consciousness being equally true and false, and if it is not so, then it would be a fault that others would also see it. The first is: Whatever mind with blurred sense organs, whatever sees hairs etc. from the power of blurring, that depends on the mind, both are true; for seeing things clearly, both are also false. Also, even if there is no external object, there is consciousness, because the blurred one clings to non-existent hairs etc., if you say so, it is unreasonable, because it is exactly like a dream. Whatever mind with blurred eye organs, whatever sees hairs etc. from the power of blurring, that depends on the deluded mind, the appearance of hairs also appears, both object and object-possessor are true, for seeing things clearly without blurring, both are also false, because the consciousness of object-possessor without object cannot be established. The second is: If there is mind without an object of knowledge, then the object of that hair and the eye are related, even without blurring, the thought of hair will arise in the mind, if it is not so, therefore it does not exist. If you say it is not established, then it is shown to be established: If there is a mind that shows the object of knowledge hair without it existing, then the object of that hair and the eye are related to the object of crutches etc., even when the eye without blurring gazes, the thought of appearing as hair will arise in the same way, because the absence of object is the same. Because of that inference, the thought of hair arising without blurring is not so, therefore, the arising of object-possessor consciousness without object does not exist. Secondly, there are two types: refutation of the proof of ability (212b) and refutation of the way of establishing tenets based on ability. Firstly, there are two types: answer to fault-finding and refutation of it. The first is: Because for the things seen, the ability of the mind is not mature, therefore thoughts will not arise for it. If you say it is not because there is an object of knowledge and there is no real thing, if it is determined that consciousness arises and does not arise because of the presence and absence of an object, then even if you allow that, consciousness arises because of the maturation and non-maturation of the imprints left by previous consciousness.

Because what is the cause of non-arising, even if the habit of hair-like appearance of previous consciousness is completely mature, without hair, consciousness with the image of hair will arise. In pure vision without cataracts, because the previous consciousness has not left the habit of hair-like appearance, the ability to generate the mind of hair-like appearance is not mature, therefore, the mind of hair-like appearance will not arise in the vision without cataracts, because it is separated from the entity of the knowable object, is it not because the mind that grasps it does not arise? Second, it is divided into: teaching and explanation. First: Because that power is absent, this is not accomplished. If there is something called "ability", it will cause consciousness to arise or not arise depending on whether it is mature or not, then, according to the reasoning that will be explained, because that ability does not exist, this ability is not established. Second, it is divided into: generally stating that there is no ability in the three times, and specifically explaining that there is no ability in the past and future. First: There is no reason for ability in what has arisen, and there is also no ability in the unarisen nature. If there is something called "ability", then it should be admitted that it is an ability related to the present consciousness, or an ability related to the past and future? If it is like the first case, then, the present consciousness that has arisen cannot have ability in itself, because, if it is said to be the consciousness of ability, that is, the sixth kind of statement of relation (213a), then, ability and consciousness are not other than each other, and, the consciousness that has become the result should not be admitted as the present cause. If the present consciousness is the cause, then, the consciousness that is the result will become without cause, because, ability itself cannot become the present cause. Or, because that ability is not other than itself. If the first reason is not established, then, taking the present ability as the subject, you cannot become the present, because you need to become your own cause. The reason has been admitted. If it is not pervasive, then taking that as the subject, you do not need to be produced by you, because you have already been established, that is, because you are the present. If the ability to generate consciousness is not other than the present consciousness, then taking that as the subject, when the sprout arises, the seed will not perish, because the nature of cause and effect is the same. Also, if it is said that the present consciousness arises from ability, that is, the fifth kind of statement of origin, then, the present consciousness that has arisen cannot arise from ability, because it exists now.
