Refutation (209a) All the ways of speaking are also said to contradict fame, which will cause others to generate wrong ideas. Because taking the dream as a metaphor for the unreal emptiness of the objects, powers, and intentions of waking up becomes meaningless. Because those three of the dream are not unreal and false, they exist there and have a real function. If you say it is not pervasive, then it is pervasive. If the objects, powers, and intentions of the dream can function and are real, then all the phenomena such as form that are to be proven by that metaphor, the truth that cannot function does not exist, and it cannot be established as a false state. Just as if a vase is established without being made, it cannot be used as a metaphor for proving that sound is impermanent. This refers to the immaculate reasoning of glorious Chandrakirti. The teacher Sthiramati believes that in name, form and other things do not arise from external objects, but from the Alaya consciousness. He refutes that view and only proves that form and other things arise from external objects only in name, but in the ultimate sense, form and other external objects are not established by their own nature, but are empty. If this method is used to prove it in name as well, it will be a retreat from the Madhyamaka school, and he made such an accusation. In response, the great Tsongkhapa said that for the Svatantrika-Madhyamaka's own system, it is not that it shows that there are no objects and subjects such as elephants in dreams, but it deceitfully acknowledges the true conventional truth. Because there, for the deceptive realm of appearance, it is believed that consciousness is not deceptive (209b). And, because of this belief, the objects and subjects of the dream are also actually acknowledged as true in the true conventional sense. Moreover, you Prasangikas, you refute both true establishment and truth, and as an example of saying that it is unreal, you deceitfully acknowledge the true dream as true. Because of this establishment, worldly people believe that the ultimate truth is true, and the true conventional truth is established as true in the face of innate wisdom, and it is famous and established for all worldly people. Because of the reason and that example, worldly people will not think that the true conventional truth is not true as you do. If both the metaphor and what is to be proven are established as true in the conventional sense, then it becomes equally established.

If it is not established, it is because they change together. Saying it that way, the reasoner, in the case of the established and the establishing dharma, does not have the occasion to follow. According to the way of the refuter that you have newly opened, the establisher establishes the unreality of the established in that way, and it prevents the establishment of reality in both truths, saying that is just words, but in reality it is not said that way. The conclusion that is repeatedly taught like that, such as the teacher Lekden, takes the example of dreams as a way to establish all dharmas as emptiness, and the teacher Chandrakirti said that it was a mistake, because he admitted that dreams and objects exist in conventional truth (210a), are real. However, here in the land of snow (the Gangdise mountain range region), the teacher Chandrakirti takes dreams as a similar example for establishing emptiness, taking the example of the fact that objects do not exist as truly established from their own side, not taking the example of the fact that dreams and objects are real in their ability to function in dreams, so they do not exist in conventional truth either. According to those who hold this as a place of faith, if one analyzes this dharma, the teacher Chandrakirti should not criticize the teacher Lekden, because saying that would be a mistake and an error, then Chandrakirti's view would also become an error and a mistake. The second is: How dreams are, so is this waking state, All things are false, and the mind does not exist. There is no object of experience, and the senses are also absent. In dreams, the three are not established, so in waking, the establishment of the three should also be prevented. Just as the three, objects, senses, and consciousness, are false in dreams, so in this state of waking, things from form to omniscience are false, and the mind that apprehends those things does not exist, and there is no object of experience for it, and the senses that are the basis are not established in the two truths as they appear and are clung to, as it is said in the sutra: Just as the object of a magical being is apprehended, It appears, but it is not true in itself. The magician is like a dream. Such a dharma was taught by the Sugata. And: The wandering in existence (210b) is like a dream, In this, no one is born or dies, The mind
