Name and life are also unattainable, these dharmas are like bubbles and mirages. So it is said. The third is: How is it to be awake here, as long as it is, not awake as long as it is, he has three. If one becomes awake, all three are not there, just as after waking from the sleep of ignorance, it is the same. In this world, when one is awake, with the great sleep of ignorance, there are three: object, faculty, and consciousness. As long as one is not awake from the temporary small sleep of mental events, the sleeper has these three: object, faculty, and consciousness. There is appearance as three, because there is attachment as it appears. In the 'Mind Commentary' it says: At the time of waking from a dream, there is no difference in function, in a dream as in dreaming, the function is the same but the nature is not. Therefore, the previous teachers of the Madhyamaka school, such as the Bhagavan and the noble protector Nagarjuna, extensively taught the dharma that the essence of things is unattainable, but the later Tibetans explain the essence of things as being able to function, which is a great wrong conception. The essence of things is that worldly people, due to ignorance, grasp the ability to function as a true dharma with innate intelligence. Such a reversed conception is a confused consciousness, so it is definitely something to be abandoned. Whoever realizes that things and dharmas are separated from function like objects in a dream, then he knows that all the dharmas of the two truths are profound emptiness, without self-nature, equality, and there is no (211a) shaking or change, but in the conventional, like the function of dependent origination, the arising and ceasing of samsara can also arise like false appearances, deceptive appearances, and confused appearances. Such things that can arise are not the essence of things that truly exist in both the ultimate truth and the conventional truth. After understanding this, if one clings to things as being able to function, then it is definitely an obscuration of knowledge, so it is said. If the great Tsongkhapa is like this, then not only is the way of connecting the meaning of the metaphor of all dharmas being like dreams and illusions reversed, but also in conventional terms, because of slandering cause and effect from the essence of things that can function, one will fall into the great abyss of evil destinies because of holding wrong views.

The nature of "not seeing the self-nature of things" is a unique object of negation by a sign that neither Chinese nor Tibetans could previously clearly point out. This was directly spoken by the venerable Manjushri and only exists in our school. Those without fortune, such as the early Tibetan Madhyamikas, do not understand it. Therefore, although the Madhyamikas who previously appeared in Tibet, such as the great Zhangtang Sakya, were holy beings in terms of conventional bodhicitta, discipline, and generosity, their understanding and practice of ultimate bodhicitta and Madhyamika were mistaken like the Chinese monk Heshang. From now on, wise people should not follow that school. If they do, the path to liberation and all (211b) knowledge will be cut off. This has been widely proclaimed from Kashmir to the Chinese imperial palace of Dadu (Beijing). Nowadays, Gelugpas believe that the root guru of Tsongkhapa, the venerable Redawa, only remained in the early Madhyamika view and practice during his lifetime, and did not generate the unerring Madhyamika view and practice that the great Tsongkhapa realized. Therefore, the two schools of Tibetan Madhyamika Prasangika, both earlier and later, appear to have different traditions, like light and darkness. Therefore, one should listen to and contemplate the scriptures of Nagarjuna and his spiritual sons, abandon sectarian bias, and analyze with an impartial mind. The time has come to follow the school that is free from error. If one is biased towards the lineage one likes, or is merely attached to the order in which one first entered the Dharma, or the number of people who have joined the school, or who is currently powerful, brave, and wealthy in U-Tsang and Ngari, mistakenly believing that they are free from error and confidently deciding to side with them, there is a great danger of falling into sectarian views. Therefore, this treatise does not show that the eighteen realms exist even nominally in a dream, but rather shows that whether awake or not, the eighteen realms have no difference between truth and falsehood in reality, and are entirely false. Just as the three things in a dream do not exist when one wakes up from a nap, when one awakens from the great sleep of ignorance, and the Dharmadhatu manifests, the temporary cause of illusion (21
