How can it be praised as the supreme Madhyamaka? Second (16a) If so, then if it is inferior to the Madhyamaka that asserts no self-nature, what is better than asserting self-nature? If one says that those who assert self-nature are also Madhyamikas, then why is there a need to speak of false appearances there? Because the views of all internal and external heretics are Madhyamaka, and all who speak in this way can be considered Madhyamikas. According to the third statement, in order to place it and that on an equal footing of superiority and inferiority, would the Madhyamaka of no self-nature become the Madhyamaka of self-nature? Or would ultimate truth become not ultimately established? False appearances of words do not abide in Madhyamaka, for if they abide in Madhyamaka, then there is no other higher tenet above it, and it must be established without being harmed by any internal or external reasoning, but it is not established in that way. For example, in emptiness, the arising of interdependence is reasonable, and no one who asserts substance can refute it with harm, but the wisdom of non-duality, which is truly established, is not like that. Its manner should be explained: That consciousness without aspects, as a dharma, you will lose the definition of consciousness, because you do not have an object to be known. The Ornament of Madhyamaka says: Thus, for that which has no aspect, there is no consciousness of it. For that which is not bliss, there is no bliss, etc., for white things, there is no non-white. The Commentary on Mind says: If consciousness knows through the knower, the known, and the act of knowing, then because there is no known, there is no knower. The false appearance itself also says: If there is no grasping, there is no grasper there. This contradicts the above statement. For the consciousness of two emptinesses, like a crystal ball, there is no object of focus, because the Ornament says: That which has no aspect (16b) By that, that consciousness also becomes non-existent. Like a pure crystal ball, that consciousness has no intense sensation. Because it appears in this way. If it is thought that such an experience is truly established, because if it were not, there would be no basis for the arising of either samsara or nirvana. Then, if it arises from that which exists, is there a relationship of identity or causality between this false appearance of grasper and grasped and the truly established ultimate truth? If not, then it would also arise from a rabbit's horn, and if it exists, then the truly established ultimate truth would also become false like the dharma of grasper and grasped, because it has the same nature or result as it.

In order to follow, therefore the teacher Hero says: Some, with the power of wisdom, well know that what is taken is emptiness, but regard the taker as truly existent. This is the one who follows the true aspect. Some think that all dharmas are the body of self-awareness, free from various imputations, like the experience of a dream, and think that non-dual wisdom is established. This is the one who follows the false aspect. The nature of mind is without appearance, like the sky, and they think that it is established as ultimate truth. This is the one who follows the false aspect. Since both of these are not Madhyamaka, they do not see the truth itself, like the order: The ultimate truth Manjushri, who is completely liberated from all the rest, is not manifest. And, the Manjushri of the Dharmadhatu, who transcends the nature of consciousness, is not seen. As it is said, since there is no grasping of the difference between the meaning of what is taken and what is taken, therefore, by entering into the meaning of consciousness or awareness, merely knowing that is named as wisdom, and presuming that it is established as ultimately true, therefore, Manjushri, that is, the meaning of reality, is not realized. If you regard that knowledge as consciousness (17a) and presume that it exists, then there is the saying, "Consciousness is truly existent," which is the treatise of the Yogacara school. But there is no saying, "Wisdom is truly existent," which is the treatise of the Yogacara school. Therefore, saying that non-dual wisdom is truly established is accepted by the Madhyamikas, this meaningless statement has been strongly refuted. For such knowledge, because of following the false aspect, no matter what name is given to it, whether it is wisdom or Dharmadhatu, or true limit, or without characteristics, or emptiness, if it is regarded as truly established, then it is only the Mind-Only school, and not the Madhyamika school. Because the Mind-Only school says that the nature of mind is the perfectly established reality, there is a great difference. Also, the first distinction between Madhyamaka and Mind-Only is only said because the method of distinction is extremely lacking. Others, all the authors of treatises in this world, because the Mind-Only school thinks that non-dual wisdom is truly established, therefore they have not understood the Madhyamika school, which is the complete body of Madhyamaka that is free from all extremes, and it is as famous as the wind. You Mind-Only school do not admit that non-dual wisdom is truly established, saying so is because your own proposition is wrong, so you have to admit many faults as a side effect. False words must be maintained with falsehood.
