If the agent were also one, then those would not be one, therefore one should not commit to arising from oneself, because that would lead to the fault of extensive explanation. If one wants those fruits to arise from oneself, it is unreasonable, because the thing to be produced and the producer, as well as the action and the actor, would all become one. If it is not unreasonable, but reasonable in that way, then father and son, fire and firewood, etc., would all become one. If it is not like that, if one enters into the meaning of the two truths without error, then one should not commit to things arising from oneself. As the teacher said: "Cause and effect, if they are one, will never be reasonable. Cause and effect, if they are one, then producing and being produced will become one." etc., because that would lead to the fault of extensive explanation. Refuting arising from others Secondly, it is divided into: direct refutation and refuting the view of Vijnanavada incidentally. First, it is divided into: stating the former's view, and refuting it. The first is: Here our own school says that things do not arise from themselves, which is reasonable, because arising from oneself is meaningless. Arising from both is also unreasonable, because one part is missing. The causeless side is very inferior, so refuting those is also reasonable. If someone says like this: "How can it arise from others?" This is unreasonable. Like this, the four conditions that have become other, namely the causal condition, the objective condition, the immediately preceding condition, and the dominant condition, are what produce things. Therefore, even if unwilling, one should commit to arising from others based on the scriptures. Some of them say: The causal condition is the five causes out of the six causes, except for the efficient cause, namely the co-emergent cause, the similar cause, the corresponding cause, the pervasive cause, and the ripening cause, because they are definite there. As it says in the Abhidharmakosha: "Cause is called the five causes." All phenomena that are cognized by the six consciousnesses in their respective ways are the objective condition. As it says in the Abhidharmakosha: "The objective condition is all phenomena." The mind and mental factors other than the mind that enters into nirvana without remainder are the immediately preceding condition. As it says in the Abhidharmakosha:

Since it is said, "Mind and mental events are born, not later, equal, immediately." Therefore, the agent cause is the dominant condition, which is the doctrine of the Vaibhashikas, who speak of six causes and four conditions. Other Sutrantikas say that things arise from just four conditions. They say that what abides in the nature of the accomplishing cause or in the essence of the seed that produces is the causal condition. Just as an old man rises by leaning on a cane, so the mind and mental events that arise from the cause, what causes them to arise, that is the objective condition, which is the support of the nature of arising. The immediate cessation of the cause is the immediately preceding condition for the arising of the effect, just as the destruction immediately after the cessation of the seed is the immediately preceding condition for the sprout. (130b) Regarding the immediately preceding condition, the Vaibhashikas hold that the object of the destruction of the previous entity, which is of the same kind as the mind and mental events, is the immediately preceding condition. The Sutrantikas, however, hold that the destruction of the previous entity of the same kind as the mind and mental events is the non-entity immediately preceding condition. However, the former tenet is better. (If Tsongkhapa says, "To say that destruction is an entity is logical, because the Sutrantikas say that the destruction of the immediately preceding condition is an entity." Assuming that the manner of acceptance is different, the Vaibhashikas hold that the previous entity of the immediately preceding entity of the later entity ceases at its own time. It creates the opportunity for the later entity to arise, and it is the immediately preceding condition of the later entity. In terms of the part where the later entity is obtained in the place of destruction, destruction is established as an entity, but destruction itself is not established as an entity. The Sutrantikas consider destruction to be a non-entity, so they do not consider it to be an entity. The fact that the destruction of a non-entity acts as a real cause is prohibited by the reasoning of the Yogacharas, which is widely discussed in the treatises of the former teachers. Note: (Because a non-entity cannot be the cause of an entity. Whatever exists, whatever arises, that is the dominant condition. If the agent cause among the six causes is included as a condition, it is included as the dominant condition. Furthermore, other conditions arise simultaneously, such as the sprout and the shadow of the sprout, the lamp and the light of the lamp, which belong to the category of the dominant condition. Later, the knowable future that arises becomes the cause of the present consciousness, and the fruit arises before the cause.
