Since the imputed conventional existence is not admitted, it would become the fault of an unestablished basis for Samkhya and other schools, so this is unreasonable. Therefore, if one makes the eye, etc., as a substantially existent property-possessor, then it is not established for oneself; if one makes the conventionally existent eye, etc., as a property-possessor, then it is not established for others, so one cannot escape the fault of an unestablished basis (118a). If it is said that one does not hold anything that is differentiated as substantially existent and conventionally existent as a property-possessor, but if one wants to hold only the general aspect that abandons that differentiation, for example, just as in 'sound is impermanent,' one holds only the general sound of both the impermanent dharma and the property-possessor sound, but not the differentiation. If one holds the differentiation, then all the terms of inference, reason, and what is to be inferred, the object to be proven, will disappear. After briefly stating that, explaining it in detail: Thus, if one holds the sound that is made from the four great elements as a property-possessor, then that is not established for the opponent, the Vaibhashika. However, if one holds the sound that is the quality of space as a property-possessor, then that is not established for oneself, the Buddha. Similarly, the Sravaka Vaibhashika (the clear commentary of the Righteous One says that the Vaibhashika mentioned here is not the non-Buddhist Vaibhashika. The Sravakas also agree with the Vaibhashika's assertion of partless particles, etc., so they are called Vaibhashika, and when abbreviated, they are called Sravaka Vaibhashika). (When the Samkhya asserts that sound is impermanent, if one holds the produced sound as a property-possessor, then that is not established for the other, the Samkhya. However, if one holds the sound that makes manifest what was previously existent as a property-possessor, then that is not established for oneself, the Vaibhashika.) The statement about the property-possessor can be similarly applied to the dharma. For example, if one makes destruction with a cause as the dharma to be proven, then that is not established for oneself, the Buddha. However, if one makes destruction without a cause as the dharma to be proven, then that is not established for the opponent, the Vaibhashika (118b). Therefore, just as one holds only the general aspect of the dharma and the property-possessor here, similarly, when the Madhyamika establishes the absence of self-birth for the Samkhya, one should also abandon the fault within the property-possessor of true and false differentiation.

If someone asks, "Will there be attachment to just a small portion of the aggregates (skye mched)?" The answer is: "Attaching to just a common aspect of phenomena (chos) is not reasonable, as stated by Lekden (legs ldan)." Because, just as within the proponents of realism, to argue for attachment to the common aspect of real entities, discarding permanence and impermanence of sound, a common ground for establishment is found among opposing sides, it is impossible to find such an attachment established in the common appearance of real entities between Madhyamikas and proponents of realism. If it exists, then the mere entity itself must be established as the very entity of ultimate truth and conventional truth. But like that, for the entity of the two truths, the Madhyamikas say that in both truths, it is not established by its own nature, but is emptiness. This reason is accepted by the great scholar Lekden Dze (legs ldan byed). Because those scholars are Madhyamikas, who believe that phenomena in both truths are devoid of the nature of self-essence and imputed entities. Lekden Dze says like this: "When the Samkhyas refute the self's (bdag) arising, if here the refutation of arising is considered the dharma to be established, then merely unborn, as the object to be subsequently inferred, the basis of that, the dharma, just a small portion of the aggregates within the subject, in the conventional mind's inverted conceptualization of the subject, finding the entity of the nature of the aggregates, then the non-inverted conceptualization of the noble meditative wisdom, for such a subject, in both truths, it is not established as self-essence and imputed entity, but has degenerated from real phenomena, Lekden himself admitted this (119a)." Inverted conventional conceptualization, like the aggregates in the object of the conventional truth's measurer, and non-inverted noble wisdom that realizes as it is, like the object of the ultimate truth's measurer, free from elaboration, these are different in the face of mistaken and non-mistaken minds. Because, in the object of inverted consciousness, the knowable is also inverted, in the object of the non-inverted knowable, it will never change. For example, when the eye consciousness with cataracts perceives hair, etc., and thus clings to the absence of inversion, the mind with an inverted object, clinging to the inverted object, that is, clinging to what does not exist as existing, then how could the non-inverted knowable, and even a small part of the meaning that exists in the imputed entity, become an object of focus? Consciousness is inverted.
