What is being done now is precisely because it has not been established for the previous debater, so it is what needs to be established. For what has already been established, how could there be a doubt about the fault of the probandum in the thesis, or the meaning of contradictory reasoning? Because it exists in similar examples, there is no fault of contradiction. Because the commitment of consequentialism has been removed, there is no fault of proving what has already been proven. Because there is no fault of contradiction and proving what has already been proven, even when stating a contradiction of commitment in the inference that follows the debater's own commitment, stating the faults of the thesis and the probandum as mentioned above, there is none in Buddhapālita. Furthermore, the fault of not eliminating the faults stated by the Sāṃkhyas is non-existent. Therefore, these refutations of Buddhapālita by Bhāviveka, it should be known that they are irrelevant because they do not understand the thought of the great teacher Buddhapālita. Here, with the words such as "the pot (111a) and so on do not arise from themselves," it is not that things like blankets and so on arise from themselves and are uncertain, because it is intended to include all objects that are intended to arise as not arising from themselves. Therefore, the reason that prevents self-origination is not contradictory, uncertain, or unestablished. Alternatively, from the previously stated argument, this argument is another way, that is, the Sāṃkhyas say that the objects of knowledge are determined to be twenty-five, and then they consider these to be four ways: the root nature does not transform, the seven, beginning with the Great One, transform in nature, the sixteen are transformations, and the puruṣa is neither nature nor transformation. Therefore, the root nature is only the cause, not the effect. The seven, beginning with the Great One, are both cause and effect. The remaining sixteen are only transformations, not causes. Because the puruṣa is neither cause nor effect. For this view, in that respect, those twenty-four meanings that are said to arise from the root nature that is different from the puruṣa are the subject of the thesis, and not arising from themselves is the property to be established. Because it exists in its own nature, this is the reason. Like the puruṣa, Bhāviveka

Because having the knowledge of expression is a category of names, an example should be given of speech that refutes others. Knowable things are only of two kinds, material and mental, and material things all become subjects. Taking a person as an example, it is stated because it is thought that the sign is uncertain (111b). If someone also thinks that because birth is prevented, it does not harm the statement of birth like a pot with a manifest result. However, for the cause that is not manifest, the inference that it arises manifestly from itself cannot be refuted. Even so, because the result is already manifest, preventing this birth does not fail to harm the one who thinks that birth arises from a cause that is not manifest. Because for the pot with a manifest result, the sound of birth is re-established as non-existent, and because what was previously unclear or unobserved and later observed are consistent in Dharma nature, the expression of manifestness itself by the sound of birth is prevented. Similarly, for what is not manifest and exists at the time of the cause, the birth that arises manifestly from itself at the time of the result is also prevented. In this commentary, this way of expression is also a category. If someone also thinks that preventing birth does not harm the statement of manifest birth, even so, the sound of birth is attributed to the manifest pot, and it is said that it does not arise from itself. The reason for attributing it to that is that because what was previously unobserved and later observed are consistent in Dharma nature, the expression of the manifest pot etc. itself by the sound of birth, because this birth of the manifest pot is prevented, it does not fail to harm the manifest self-birth of all things. This category also comes from ancient commentaries and explanations. In some old texts (112a), the meaning is: if it is made manifest, does it make manifest something that is already manifest from above, or does it make manifest something that is not manifest? If it is the former, it is meaningless, and if it is the latter, the vow of self-manifestation is broken. So it is written. Furthermore, how did you, Chandrakirti, find this kind of presentation, in which the teacher Sanggyé Gyang analyzes the real consequential fallacy of contradictory statements and the meaning of the five-membered proof statement as it is said, without making an expression of meaning? It will be explained.
