This passage is an explanation and detailed elaboration of the previously stated concise words. This statement aims to prove the dharma of selflessness, which is similar to the well-known and obvious example of a pot, and to affirm the dharma that possesses its own nature as the proof. Approaching universality in this way, being called having its own nature, is what holds the reason. And the statement, "because birth is meaningless," is to present the dharma that the opponent does not want to prove, in a way that it is a fault, and to make them accept it. For example: Sound is impermanent. (109b) Because it is created, whatever is created is seen as impermanent. For example, like a pot. Similarly, sound is also created, therefore, because it is created, it is impermanent. Like this, by applying it here, it clearly shows that "created" is the reason. Similarly, in order to prove that sound is impermanent, the five-membered argument with the proof, example, and sign is listed as an example. Buddhapālita here says, "Things do not arise from themselves," which is like saying "sound is impermanent." "For things that have their own nature, birth is also meaningless," which is like saying "because it is created, it is impermanent." Here, just as things like pots appear in front of us and clearly have their own nature, so they are seen as not depending on birth, which is like saying "whatever is created is seen as impermanent, for example, like a pot." Similarly, in the case of clay lumps and so on, if one thinks that there are pots and so on that have their own nature, then at that time, the things that have their own nature will not arise. This is like saying, "sound is also created, therefore, because it is created, it is impermanent," and he applied these words in this way. Regarding the way of applying the argument, there are two ways of applying it in the logical treatises of the realists: one is the application of the five-membered argument through various stories, in order to facilitate understanding; the other is the application of the two-membered argument in order to establish the proof. The first is: proposition, reason, example, application, and conclusion, that is, connecting the reason with the dharma to be proven.

The proposition and the conclusion, which are the limbs (110a). These five are sequentially established without the need for exclusion, desiring to establish, and as stated in the proposition, existing in the subject of debate, possessing the qualities of knowable and knowing, and the reason and the proposition that clarify both, totaling five. The second is the limbs of pervasion and property of the subject, as it is said: 'The property of the subject is pervaded by that.' Thus it appears. The realists establish the statement of proof that is established by valid cognition in their own system. Here, for the sake of debate, the statement that is established in one's own system is not established, but it is a statement that establishes the refutation of others' assertions by means of others' reasons and examples in order to generate the inference of others' fame. The reason for establishing the statement with five limbs here is that it was very popular among early logicians, so it is said to be in accordance with their views. It is said that the early and later logicians refer to the reasoning that was prevalent during the time of the scholar brothers Asanga as early, and the reasoning that Dignāga and Dharmakīrti analyzed in detail as later, according to the great translator. In this way, by applying the reason that is known as valid cognition in the world, it is clarified that there is no self-birth, and there is no confusion in refuting self-birth, because by the very existence of one's own nature, by the reason of the Samkhyas' own commitment, it is stated that it contradicts the Samkhyas by their own subsequent inference. Therefore, the combination of Buddhapālita is not reasonable, because the reason and the example are not stated, and what if they were stated? The scholar (110b) Buddhapālita not only did not state the reason and the example, but also did not eliminate the faults stated by other Samkhyas. How are the faults eliminated? The Samkhyas do not accept that the pot in front of them is of a manifest nature, and the manifest pot itself is established here as the nature of the example that possesses both the reason and the property of the subject, so it is not contradictory. Moreover, the manifest pot that is able to produce exists as the nature of the cause, and it exists as the nature of the pot that is not of a manifest nature, because the re-arising on the basis of the difference, the golden pot, is prevented, so it is a difference.
