Therefore, one should not establish a valid cognition that is free from error, because it is not accepted that the other side of non-erroneousness, i.e., erroneousness, is established by one's own system's valid cognition. For example, one cannot find a profound inference to establish in one's own system, because to find it, one must establish a profound inference that is not present in another system. However, in this system, such an establishment is said to be only an object of refutation. As Āryadeva said: "Existence, non-existence, and existence and non-existence, In which direction are they not present? Therefore, even after a long time, One cannot speak of a dispute." Also, in the *Refutation of Disputes*: If I, a Madhyamika, had some commitment to the nature of things, existent or non-existent, established by valid cognition in both truths according to my own system, then I would have the fault of not stating the sign and example and not removing the faults stated by others. However, since the ultimate is free from all elaborations and the conventional is merely a dependent imputation, I do not have a commitment to the two truths being established by valid cognition in my own system (106b). Therefore, I only have the fault of not stating the sign and example of self-origination. If the four valid cognitions, such as direct perception, aim to establish some real things, then it could be established if there were something to be established in one's own system or to be refuted from one's own system. However, since there is no such thing, I, a Madhyamika, do not have the dispute of not stating the sign and example of my own system, etc. Furthermore, some say that the statement that Madhyamikas do not have their own system is made in the sense of establishing a total exclusion, not in the sense of stating a specific exclusion to be refuted, because a mere specific exclusion is neither existent nor non-existent. The object to be established by Madhyamikas is also merely a non-affirming negation of a specific exclusion. They say this. Then, Madhyamikas should not have a commitment to refuting a specific exclusion, because a commitment to a mere specific exclusion is not a commitment, because such a commitment, in general, is neither existent nor non-existent. Or, Madhyamikas should have a commitment to establishing a total exclusion, because they have a commitment to refuting a specific exclusion. If they have this commitment, then what do they specifically exclude and totally exclude? By one function of the valid cognition that totally excludes it, having specifically excluded it, it is not totally excluded.
