That which is taken is birth, because it is the meaning of fruit. It is said that it is like being born for the sake of fruit. Here, for the time being, the opponent's imputed atoms of earth, water, fire, and wind, for those that do not possess birth and (80b) destruction, like a sky flower, because of having no cause, existence itself is not existent. These non-existents, like sky flowers, because of having no cause, existence itself is not existent. For these non-existents, to falsely establish them as causes, and to establish impermanence by establishing birth, is also not reasonable, because the meaning of fruit is not established for oneself, and if one accepts what is established for others as a reason, it becomes too extreme. Since it is accepted that things are not reasonable, one should refute the opponent, therefore, it is also not reasonable to accept permanence as the meaning of fruit. With this, to infer based on the promises of others, and to state contradictions, is also not reasonable, because that can only be stated when it is established for both. As it is said, the meaning of that is that logicians are commentators on the "Hundred Treatises." If the Vaisheshikas admit that the atoms of the four elements are unborn, then it is not reasonable to establish impermanence by establishing birth, saying that those are born because they are causes, because the atoms of the four elements falsely established by others are not reasonable as things, therefore, the subject is not established here, as it is said. On top of the subject, the cause with the meaning of fruit is not established for oneself, therefore it does not become a reason. Even if it is not established for oneself, if one accepts what is established for others as a reason, it becomes too extreme. If one temporarily accepts what is established for others, and thinks that one can refute the opponent's system, then it is extremely unreasonable to accept what is unreasonable oneself and thereby refute the delusions of others (81a). To state harm to the opponent also requires something established that is famous to both, because one cannot generate pure valid cognition in the mindstream of others with one's own uncertain words. The meaning of harm also needs to generate certainty in the respondent, and then eliminate his wrong conceptions with that. Thus, with the bad reason that is famous to others, one cannot refute wrong conceptions in front of others.

Because there are so many, such a time should not be mixed, this is the most important key among secrets. In particular, if the Svātantrika-Madhyamikas protect the tenets of the inner Buddhist schools, if they favor their own lower schools, when preventing other schools, if they say that the reasoning of other schools is valid, they will be slandering the tenets of their own schools. When the inner Lokāyatas and the Madhyamikas debate, the inner Lokāyatas, in order to establish that the dharmas of the skandhas, etc., are real, not to mention the Svātantrika, other famous valid cognitions also do not exist, so it is not appropriate to acknowledge such other famous valid cognitions. Ācārya Candrakīrti says in the commentary on the sixteenth chapter of the Madhyamakāvatāra: Those who speak of the reasoning of emptiness do not acknowledge the reasons that are famous in other treatises, because they want to show that the other treatises themselves are unreasonable. Wherever there are debaters who have views, both sides acknowledge the meaning, so only valid cognition is the reason. If one speaks of reason, then one will only grasp the extreme of not establishing the meaning together with the reason. The meaning of this is that when the two sides of the debate are arguing about the reality of things, both sides must enter into the (81b) state that has not been harmed by valid cognition. If one speaks with attachment to the truth of one side that is acknowledged as valid cognition by oneself or others, then there is neither victory nor defeat, and no matter what enters into the reality of that thing, the debaters will not understand it. In particular, when debating with other debaters, the Prasangikas do not debate at all in accordance with the refutation and establishment of the system of the glorious Dignāga and Dharmakīrti. The Prasangikas' uncommon characteristics of refutation and establishment, acknowledging five such as the Prasanga that expresses contradiction, is an unsurpassed self-contradiction. The unestablished that is the same as the establisher, and the two equalities of reason, in the system of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti, are said to be answers to the unestablished reason and pervasion, as if they were refutations. The Prasanga that expresses contradiction, in his system, is said to be the true Prasanga that refutes the other side. Other famous inferences are not absent in that system, because in that system, there is a follower for the opponent in the debate.
