It is established as Dharma, and it commonly engages in refutation and establishment, acceptance and rejection. If this is acknowledged, then the tenets of external and internal philosophers will contradict what one has acknowledged, and it will be impossible to avoid being harmed by others' reasoning. This is because the views of those who propound external and internal tenets are like dreams, illusions, cities of gandharvas, reflections, the appearance of hairs in a mirage, and so on. And like proving that rabbit horns and so on are truly existent, they acknowledge that they possess qualities such as permanence and impermanence, materiality and immateriality, oneness and difference, self and other, both, and causeless arising, as well as functions such as arising and ceasing, and going and coming. Moreover, they want to establish their own view because they see it as possessing qualities, and they want to refute others' views because they see them as possessing faults. Therefore, they engage in refutation and establishment driven by these motivations. However, even if their own view has endless self-contradictions and logical harms, they do not see them. Regarding others' views, they see clearly all self-contradictions, common logical harms, and contradictions with worldly fame that exist. This is the state of all biased tenet holders, so they engage in mutual refutation and establishment, and victories and defeats are uncertain. Just as a wise person who knows the nature of illusions and so on does not see any basis of distinction for illusions and so on, and therefore should not examine their distinguishing characteristics, so the Madhyamika knows all the mistaken inner flaws of all philosophers who examine the distinguishing characteristics of that which has no basis of distinction. When they state all the self-contradictions and common logical and fame harms that exist, those people see that all their own assertions are self-contradictory and are harmed by logic and fame. In order to reverse their attachment to their own side, they will not be respectful to the Madhyamika. If they think that they will not respect the Madhyamika because they have not seen the means of establishment, then when they see that all biased assertions are self-contradictory, their attachment to them will disappear, and therefore they will be respectful to the Madhyamika who is free from all bias. This brief explanation of the additional meaning is to clarify the intention of the great master, the noble Nagarjuna, and the masters Buddhapalita and

Regarding the manner in which the Lamas have well explained, all the ancient texts that have come down from the glorious Dipamkara and the Lotsawa Nagtso, and the three virtuous spiritual friends such as Dromton, and especially the lineage of the four sons of Patsab Lotsawa and others (75b), it seems that in this land of Tibet, in later times, apart from a few such as the great translator Kyabchok Palzang and Redawa Shyönnu Lodrö, there have been no others who speak as they did. Therefore, here also is clarified the aspect of the light of their good explanations. Secondly, from the refutation of the four extremes of arising, the manner in which the Svatantrika and Prasangika schools split, and a detailed explanation of the reasoning for refuting those extremes. Firstly, an examination of what the key point of divergence is for the Madhyamikas splitting into the Prasangika and Svatantrika schools, and how they engage in mutual refutation and establishment after such a split. Firstly, the way in which those who claim to be followers of the later early scholars explain the intentions of the early Prasangikas of Tibet, the Land of Snows, is a way of not thoroughly understanding the intention. How the intention of the early Prasangikas of Tibet, the Land of Snows, is understood as it is, and how, after understanding it, it abides in the intentions of the Svatantrika and Prasangika teachers. And how the explanation of the split between Svatantrika and Prasangika, which was established by later generations, is newly created. The first is that some Svatantrikas assert that the directly perceived valid cognition is a truly valid cognition, and they also assert that it is a valid cognition arising from the power of objects, and based on that, it is established not merely by the assertion of others, but by the experience of their own continuum, and they establish emptiness by relying on the valid cognition that is asserted, and they refute its opposite. Therefore, the Svatantrikas, in accordance with their assertion of the three differences in the valid cognition that is the basis for refutation and establishment, the Prasangikas generally do not assert the valid cognition that is the basis for refutation and establishment starting from emptiness (76a). If they do assert it, they do not assert the valid cognition arising from the power of objects. Or, even if they assert the valid cognition arising from the power of objects, there is no valid cognition of their own continuum. Even so, the valid cognition that is the basis for refuting and establishing the meaning of emptiness relies solely on what is known to others. The Svatantrikas follow the system of Dignaga and Dharmakirti in establishing correct and apparent refutation and,
