For example, like a lotus in the sky and so on. All things that are said to truly exist by oneself and others are just like that. It is said. Therefore, in order to refute all the differences of things spoken of by oneself and others, the great lords have well spoken of these four unobstructed vajra slivers, therefore, all these paths do not contradict each other. Combine this with this treatise. The teacher Lektan Che and others combine the four self-continuing tenets that prevent arising with reasons and examples to supplement them. Although this is the case, the teacher Buddhapalita and the two great commentaries of the teacher here, combine the four consequentialist tenets that prevent the arising of the four extremes, and supplement them with reasons, which is good. Because it is unreasonable for the intention of the noble ones to be self-continuing. Thus, first state the four tenets, and then establish them with reason, namely: It is not produced from itself, because that is not produced from that. And, it is not produced from another, for if it is not produced from itself, how could it be produced from another? And, it is not produced from both, for if it is not produced from each one, how could it be produced from both? And, it is not produced without a cause, for how could there be existence without a cause? It is said. Have not these four tenets already been established by the teacher before? What needs to be established here again? The teacher said: The nature of things is not in conditions and so on. Etc., mainly at this time only the reason for preventing other-arising is shown. The other three are not shown in detail. And here, the other three are shown, and also, in preventing other-arising, other logical structures are shown, so it is established. Then, why does the teacher not show here the reason for preventing self-arising etc.? Because self-arising etc. are the views of the outsiders, and those views have already been prevented by their own sects. As it says in the "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning": For the time being, the source of all faults, non-existence has been completely refuted, with what reason is existence also refuted? Please listen. Like that. The teacher himself

Now (71n) Also. Because it will be said in the examination of what is done by oneself and what is done by others, etc., it is not listed. What is listed here is for the benefit of those who enter into liberation, seek the words of the Tathagata, and the treatises of Madhyamaka, and to explain other superior reasons. These four vows alone can prevent birth, because for the birth that is set up by others and truly exists, there is no other form than these four kinds of birth. Here, are the births of the four extremes prevented in the ultimate truth or in the conventional truth? The Svatantrikas think that they are prevented in the ultimate truth, but this will be explained below as unreasonable. Therefore, they are prevented in both truths. Then, birth does not exist in the conventional truth, because it does not arise from the four extremes, is that what you think? For example, for those with cataracts, the hairs and so on that appear are not conventionally existent for pure eyes without cataracts. Similarly, here, the so-called conventional birth is not seen by the Tathagata, and is not conventionally existent in the samadhi vision of the lower noble ones, and is not conventionally existent when analyzed by reason, nor is it non-existent. Even so, in order to meet the needs of the world and to prevent the relationship of karma and result from declining, when establishing conventional birth for others, just like the birth of dreams, illusions, and images, it is merely dependent origination that is free from the four extremes (71b) and arises, and this is acknowledged in front of others. But this does not prevent it from not being birth even in the conventional truth, because when it is acknowledged, no rational analysis is made, and when rational analysis is made, it is not acknowledged. Therefore, merely dependent origination that is free from the four extremes is emptiness, and it is the Middle Way, and it is the antidote to all views, so there is no contradiction in merely acknowledging it as conventional in front of others, and saying that it is not birth even in the conventional truth. Because dependent origination, even when analyzed, is free from all the nets of evil views such as the four extremes and the eight extremes. Therefore, saying that it arises from any of the four extremes is not saying dependent origination.
