Those were not his words, because they are the basis for nihilistic views (67b). Therefore, accumulating the karma of abandoning the Dharma will lead to falling into the lower realms. In the Mother Sutra, it says: In the past, even if one had offered countless Buddhas' blood, if one does not have faith in the wisdom of the Victorious Ones, the Perfection of Wisdom, then the narrow-minded one who hears this will abandon it. Having abandoned it, the helpless one will go to Avici. So it is said. Furthermore, like some Dzogchen practitioners such as Ra Rog, Pa Rogpa, and others, they grasp the meaning of emptiness as non-existence, and by slandering all phenomena, they increase wrong views and create meaningless things such as the lower realms. In the Precious Garland, it says: If this Dharma is wrongly grasped, the unwise will also be ruined. To view it as non-existent in this way, one will sink into impurity. So it is said. Regarding those who consider emptiness to be the ultimate truth, there seem to be two ways of speaking. The great Eastern Tsongkhapa and his followers assert that emptiness exists, and therefore they also acknowledge the inherent existence of phenomena as its basis. However, the Jonangpas and Shakya Chokden, and most Tibetans, assert that emptiness is established as the ultimate truth, and that in the ultimate sense, all other conventional phenomena do not exist. Therefore, both of these views have strayed from the path of liberation. Like a patient abandoned by a doctor, it is repeatedly stated in many scriptures and commentaries that they are people with incurable views. So, what will be the result of teaching emptiness to these people? Therefore, the teacher says: If emptiness is wrongly viewed, those with little wisdom will be destroyed. Just as wrongly grasping a snake, or wrongly performing a mantra (68a). Furthermore, in the Lankavatara Sutra, it says: Great Wisdom, considering this, it is better to cling to the ego-belief as great as Mount Meru, but it is not so to cling to emptiness with the arrogance of seeing existence and non-existence. So it is said. Therefore, this Dharma should be taught by the teacher after examining the capacity of the students. Whether or not capacity exists can be determined by external signs when teaching this Dharma. Even in the state of ordinary beings, after hearing the Dharma of emptiness from others, great joy and pure faith arise within, in the mind, and arise again and again. Whoever's eyes are moistened with tears born from great joy, and whose body's hairs stand on end, that is the complete

It possesses the seed of wisdom, bodhi, free from the obscurations of the Buddha. Therefore, if one strives for omniscience, one will quickly realize perfect enlightenment. Therefore, he is the most suitable vessel to be instructed. The truth of the ultimate meaning should be taught to him, because from the instruction will arise the qualities of explaining the fruition. Secondly, he will generate the qualities that follow it. He will always abide by taking the precepts correctly, give generously, practice compassion, cultivate patience, dedicate his merits to bodhi, dedicate them to liberate beings, and respect the perfect bodhisattvas. Instructing these to the listener will not only not generate meaningless things, but will also generate all the qualities that follow the instruction. Therefore, for this Dharma, just like finding a treasure, one should cultivate these qualities in order not to degenerate. One will always abide by taking the precepts correctly, abandoning all non-virtue, because breaking the precepts will lead to falling into the lower realms, thereby severing the view of emptiness. Again, one will give generously, even if one is reborn in the happy realms through precepts, but if one is poor, one will focus on necessities such as food, thereby severing the view of emptiness. Again, one will practice immeasurable compassion, because the view of emptiness is grasped by compassion, one will attain Buddhahood, not by other means. Again, one will cultivate patience, because anger will lead to falling into the lower realms, and one will become ugly, and if one displeases the noble ones because of this, one will not be able to receive teachings, thereby severing the view of emptiness. Here, ugliness is unpleasant, and also dwells in the same place as those who accumulate bad karma, therefore one will not gather together with the noble ones, the Dharma, and material enjoyments. Even if the compassionate noble ones go to the ugly body suffering from karma, one should know that due to the power of bad karma, they will also suffer for an eon. Again, all the merits of that bodhisattva are dedicated to bodhi in order to liberate all beings, because the merits that are not dedicated are not those that continuously produce the cause and effect of the Buddha.
