Also, because it is beyond speech and thought. As it says in the Mother Sutra: Forms and all are not seen, feelings and all are not seen, perceptions are not seen, mind (65b) is not seen. In what is consciousness, mind, and intellect not seen? The Thus-Gone One has shown that to be seeing the Dharma. Sentient beings say they see the sky. Consider this meaning: How does one see the sky? The Thus-Gone One has also shown seeing the Dharma in that way. The metaphor for seeing cannot be explained by other things. Whoever sees in that way sees all Dharmas. Furthermore, the teacher Lekdenjed says: Because the nature of Dharmas is not established, in what does the wisdom that does not give rise to discrimination not arise? That is what the Unequaled One knows, he said. So it appears. The Mind-Only school speaks in the opposite way from that. As it says in the Differentiation of Dharma and Dharmata: Fully knowing the characteristics is not attending, and having truly transcended, and being near to peace, and the meaning of self-nature, and holding as a manifest sign, that is, by one's own characteristic of abandoning the five aspects. So it is said. In the Compendium of Vehicles, it says: The knowledge of Bodhisattvas is the nature of non-discrimination, abandoning the five aspects, and not manifestly grasping the true meaning. So it is said. In accordance with that, it appears in the Compendium of Abhidharma and the Compendium of Determining Distinctions, and so on. Such non-discriminating wisdom and intellect do not establish as valid cognition that engages in realizing the ultimate truth. If it is non-discriminating wisdom because it does not attend, then falling asleep, being drunk, fainting, and so on, would also become non-discriminating wisdom (66a), and it is also not because it has truly transcended discrimination and thought, because all minds and mental factors from the second dhyana and above would also become that. It is also not because it is near to peace, because cessation attainment and so on would also become that, and it would also become a non-wisdom mental factor. It is also not because it is the meaning of the nature of non-discrimination, because forms, sounds, and so on would also become that. It is also not because it grasps or manifestly grasps the meaning of that very nature as "this," because that itself is discrimination. Extensive Explanation of the Emptiness of Objects. Second, the basis.

From where was it taught, in what place was it taught, and what Dharma was taught? Firstly: How does that (Bodhisattva) understand the profound Dharma through scripture and other reasoning? Thus, I will explain according to the treatises of the noble Nāgārjuna, in accordance with the way they abide. What is the reality of dependent arising, which is said to "give rise to the knowledge that sees the reality of dependent arising, which obtains cessation"? How does that Bodhisattva see it? This is not the realm of our clinging, but the realm of those who abide in the higher realms such as the sixth bhūmi, so we should ask the Buddhas and great Bodhisattvas, not ask us. If it is said: If one recites the Prajñāpāramitā Sutra and the Daśabhūmika Sutra, etc., it is said that one sees the meaning of dependent arising, so it is appropriate to answer the question based on scripture. I cannot independently answer based on scripture, because I have not directly realized the meaning of the scriptures, so it is difficult to explain its meaning with the power of reason. However, I have heard that the treatises made by authoritative persons who have directly realized the meaning of the scriptures can explain without error, so I can be sure that it is the intention of the scriptures, so I can answer. Thus, as that Bodhisattva who practices Prajñāpāramitā understands the dharmatā of all the profound dharmas, thus, according to the way of the noble ones, the scriptures of the Tathāgata, and others that should be explained by reason, thus, the treatises known and clarified by the noble Nāgārjuna, I will explain according to the way they abide in scripture, reason, and oral instructions. If it is said: The scriptures of the Tathāgata are without error, you cannot be sure that this is with the noble Nāgārjuna. This is determined according to the scriptures of the Bhagavan himself, as the Laṅkāvatāra Sutra says: "It is not the realm of conceptualizers, the wisdom of individual self-awareness, when it transforms in the future, what protector will hold it?" After the Sugata passes away, those who appear after the passage of time, who will hold the doctrine? Great wisdom, you should know. In the land of Vidarbha in the south, there is a bhikṣu named Glorious, his name is called Nāga, who destroys the sides of existence and non-existence. My doctrine in this world, the unsurpassed Mahāyāna...

Having spoken, he accomplishes the ground of great joy, and he goes to Sukhavati. Thus, in many sutras and tantras, the Bhagavan prophesied that the noble Nagarjuna would realize the ultimate meaning of the Great Vehicle, and would explain and show it to others. In short, although many arose, such as the three schools of thought who claimed to explain the Victor's intention, and the eighteen divisions, etc. (༦༧ན), they did not fully understand the Victor's intention, because they conceptually fabricated things that do not accord with reality. However, the way in which the teacher Nagarjuna explained it was not like that, because he spoke the truth as it is. As it says in the Lankavatara Sutra: "The three realms are merely imputed, there are no real things by their own nature. Those who conceptually fabricate imputations as real things will engage in conceptualization. If there is no self-nature, no consciousness, no alaya, and no reality, then foolish children, conceptualizers, impute these things as if they were corpses." Thus, whoever clings to appearances and makes distinctions is merely speaking outside the system of Madhyamaka. Secondly, there are two parts: examining the vessel of the listener, and advising them to listen. The first part has two sections: examining the fortunate outer vessel through three signs, and explaining the benefits of teaching emptiness. The first is: Even in the state of an ordinary being, upon hearing about emptiness, great joy arises again and again within, and the eyes are moistened by tears born of joy, and the hairs of the body stand on end—whoever that is, has the seed of the wisdom of the complete Buddha. That is the vessel to be shown closely, and the truth of ultimate meaning should be shown to them. This Dharma of dependent arising and emptiness should be shown only to those fortunate ones who have previously familiarized themselves with the principles of emptiness, such as through hearing and contemplation. It is not proper to show it to those who are not fortunate, because even if they listen, they will generate great non-meaning through wrong thoughts. Wrong thoughts are of two kinds: thinking of emptiness as non-existent, and thinking of emptiness as truly existent. The first also has two aspects: some unwise people, such as those of the sect who slander the Great Vehicle, say that emptiness has no meaning, and thus slander the Victor's teachings that teach emptiness.
