Now, if we speak in accordance with worldly conventions, then without examination, it is said that all phenomena encompassed by the two truths can be understood within the scope of consciousness. That is to say, even those who speak of the Madhyamaka beyond the world, in order to tame those to be tamed, without examination, following the worldly conventions that speak of knowledge as being in accordance with dependent origination, like an illusion, say only this much for them. Mere conventionalities arising from non-afflictive ignorance, like illusions and dreams. The phenomena of the two truths of dependence, encompassed by the conventional truth recognized by the noble ones, exist truly as knowledge in name. But other conventional truths defiled by afflictive ignorance, and like the appearance of a white conch as yellow due to the defilement of temporary causes of delusion, are not truly existent as non-deluded knowledge. That's what they say. Considering this meaning, (397b) The virtuous friend Ne'u Zurpa, in the stages of the three types of individuals, said: The object of the conventional, like an illusion, the definitive understanding that realizes without inversion in relation to the mind that grasps the conventional itself, the ultimate perfection of habituation, is the subsequent wisdom of the tenth ground. Therefore, its object and subject, the true conventional, as the nature of the true conventional, exists only in the subsequent attainment of the tenth ground as knowledge to be truly established. Other conventional phenomena are not true knowledge. Thus he said. The great being Machikwa Jangchub Tsondu said: From the attainment of the ground, the appearance of the conventional object becomes increasingly vast, so the appearance of delusion increases. All true conventional phenomena become manifest on the tenth ground. As long as the wisdom of the Buddha is attained, the mind's engagement with conventional phenomena ceases, and delusion is cut off. Thus he said. Furthermore, those who speak of the conventional truth arising from afflictive ignorance, those who speak of the conventional to children, say: The mere conventional like an illusion, and the conventional like grasping one moon as two moons, defiled by the ignorance of temporary causes of delusion, are not truly existent as non-deluded knowledge. The fire that is signified is truly existent by nature, and has the function of burning, etc.

thinking and saying that this self-existent thing is indeed something to be known. Moreover, for those who are deluded by ignorance, the cause of temporary confusion such as madness, the deluded phenomena such as seeing enemies as friends and fire as water are indeed objects of correct knowledge (398A). Other than that, phenomena that are not confused, either fundamentally or temporarily, are not said to be objects of correct knowledge. Thus, due to the influence of ignorance, the cause of temporary confusion, both the object and the subject of the deluded person are objects of knowledge at that time. Because if the causes of confusion like object and subject do not gather, it is impossible for a confused consciousness to arise that grasps the appearance of that object of knowledge. Without understanding this kind of reasoning, in the Madhyamaka writings of Gungru, who was well-versed in the Madhyamaka view of the great Tsongkhapa, it is written: "The conceptual thought that grasps sound as permanent and the grasping of self, etc., cannot exist without their own appearing object, so they are established by the power of measuring their own appearing object, just like the former." If it is written like that, then you, teacher and student, will have this consequence here: It is said: "The object of negation as a reason does not exist in the knowable, and for those who grasp self and those who grasp sound as permanent, etc., it is contradictory that the appearing object exists and that it is measured." Such a great fault must be admitted even if one does not want to. Also, according to your Prasangika system, if you say that the knowable is established in dependence on the knower, then, establishing the knowable in dependence on the knower is contradictory to the object of negation as a reason not existing in the knowable. Even though the image in a deluded person's mind, hair oil, and the appearance of two moons can be objects of consciousness and are knowable, the consciousness that grasps the image as a form, hair oil as hair, and the two moons as two moons, is deluded by the influence of ignorance, the cause of fundamental confusion (398B). Even though it is known in the world as the correct conventional truth, it is not the correct knowable that is established at that time. Thus, it establishes the world itself as distinct. Therefore, in order for the Madhyamikas of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers to follow other disciples, they speak of the correct conventional truth that is known to children and the distorted conventional truth that is deluded by ignorance, the cause of temporary confusion, as knowable without analyzing them. If analyzed, then any phenomenon of the two truths
