Moreover, even so, the Prasangikas, with the theory of conventionality that accords with dependent origination of knowables, preclude both the assertion that sentient beings conventionally have wisdom and that Buddhas do not. It is just as it is said there that it cannot be established. Therefore, it is absolutely not the case that Prasangikas establish conventionality after analysis, because for conventionality, even without relying on the defilement of non-afflicted ignorance, there is no distinction between correct and incorrect; all conventional phenomena are merely inversions established by non-veridical conceptualization, without any difference. However, due to the presence or absence of the defilement of afflicted ignorance, there are two types of conventionality, correct and incorrect. The conventional truth that does not accord with dependent origination of knowables is established as the appearance of deceptive phenomena due to the defilement of afflicted ignorance. When noble ones who have abandoned afflicted ignorance engage in conventional terms on the level of non-analysis, they do not even accept that such an appearance of conventionality is merely conventional, because in this way, Prasangikas arise from equipoise in the nature of reality, and when they engage in conventional terms without analysis in the subsequent attainment, they do not establish the conventional truth after analysis from the engagement of memory and wisdom that are like illusions and dreams. (394n) Even so, it is not universally true that just because one is a Prasangika, one engages in conduct without analysis, viewing conventionality as an illusion, because there are some Prasangikas of inferior intelligence who engage in conduct, viewing conventionality as inherently true, and are not sustained by the practice of the Prasangika view. However, in relation to the mere conventionality that appears due to the power of defilement by afflicted ignorance, that appearance of conventionality, in relation to the mistaken consciousness that grasps it, is not non-existent as a knowable, because if it were non-existent there, then the theory of conventionality that speaks in accordance with dependent origination of knowables, with valid reasoning, would also not preclude the illusion of object and subject that appears as conventional truth from being merely conventional, and also, if one does not apprehend the inverted object as existing as something known by the mind when the grasping and the grasped appear as inverted conventional truth apart from mere conventional illusion, then the apprehension of the inverted subject will also not be established.

Therefore, just as those who say that knowledge is in accordance with dependent origination, these phenomena, like illusions and dreams, which are unexamined, without inherent existence, and can be acted upon, cannot be established even when examined by the reasoning of other schools. All phenomena, whether conceptual or non-conceptual knowledge, and whatever speech arises from it, cannot become the object of anything. Merely being unable to become an object, as long as it enters the realm of discriminating wisdom, it becomes the conventional truth. When all objects of knowledge and knowers are completely pacified, the ultimate truth, which is beyond names, is realized by the meditative equipoise of the noble ones, both learners and non-learners (394b), and is not like the horns of a rabbit. So, does that meditative equipoise have a flow of wisdom or not? I cannot say, because the meditative equipoise of the noble ones, in which all phenomena and knowers are completely pacified, is realized by the self-aware wisdom of the noble ones themselves, and cannot be directly expressed or conceived by any ordinary person, whether oneself or others. Regarding what is called the "reason of the nature of phenomena," those who say that knowledge is not in accordance with dependent origination and assert the real existence of things call it the "reason of the nature of phenomena"; and those who say that knowledge is in accordance with dependent origination also call it the "reason of the nature of phenomena." The former believes that this is the reason established by the nature of phenomena of either of the two truths; the latter believes that even if it is not established in this way, it is merely an unexamined imputation, and the nature of phenomena that depends on dependent origination is called the "reason of the nature of phenomena." In short, those learners and non-learners who are correctly regarded as Madhyamikas by others, regarding the worldly conventional truth that is conceived and spoken by those who say or do not say that knowledge is in accordance with dependent origination, and the truth of suffering from the perspective of samsaric beings, and those who experience the aspect of conventional truth, and the merely illusory conventional truth, and the peaceful nirvana, the ultimate truth. Thus, this aspect of conventional, deceptive, fabricated, false, artificial, and imputed phenomena, which are the objects of speech and thought and the knowers, cannot be established from the perspective of one's own system, but in order to tame the disciples, it is said (395a) that knowledge is in accordance with dependent origination.
