That wisdom is not the means to realize things as they are. It is not the measure of all objects of knowledge that are outwardly directed. For inwardly directed knowledge, it is established as non-dual wisdom, free from the duality of the knowable object and the grasping subject that measures it. Therefore, the non-dual wisdom that is asserted by the Mind-Only proponents of true and false aspects, although it appears extensively in their scriptures, the activity of accumulating the two accumulations and abandoning the two obscurations (39b) cannot be done even nominally by the function of that non-dual wisdom. Because the continuity of activity towards outwardly directed knowledge is severed. For inwardly directed knowledge, if activity occurs, then that activity would become permanent and unchanging. If it is said that the latter reason is not established, then it is entailed that it is so. Because even when that inwardly directed non-dual wisdom knows itself, there is no moment of division in the nature of knowing, and because it is established as the ultimate truth, which is the inseparability of object and subject. If it is thought that it is not pervasive, then it is entailed that it is pervasive. What is permanent there in that partless wisdom, truly established? If it is permanent, then its activity would become permanent and unchanging. If the first reason is not established, then it is entailed that that partless wisdom, truly established, is not established there. Because that which is established there is not permanent there. If the second is not established, then it is entailed that the partless wisdom, truly established, is itself permanent, and its activity is impermanent. Because of that which is not established. If it is accepted, then it is entailed that the permanent arises from the impermanent. Because from the nature of the permanent, the partless wisdom, truly established, arises its activity, which is impermanent. If it is accepted, then it is entailed that cause and effect are confused. Because of that acceptance. Furthermore, when that arises from that, does wisdom change or not change? According to the first case, then it is entailed that the partless wisdom, truly established, is impermanent. Because when its activity arises from the partless wisdom, truly established, the partless wisdom changes. According to the second case, then it is entailed that cause and effect are simultaneous, and the activity of that partless wisdom always arises. Because the partless wisdom, truly established, does not change, and from it arises its activity. Or, it is entailed that it does not arise from that. Because when it arises from that, it does not make any (40a) change at all. This is something that came up incidentally. Two
