Even if applied to Uma (Madhyamaka), how can it begin? Materialists, by examining the two truths of real phenomena, claim that they are established in the knowable. Such two truths, even when examined in terms of conventional terms for the knowable, are not established. Therefore, in the knowable, the two truths of the knowable that are in accordance with dependent origination are merely conventional terms that arise in dependence without examination. In order to dispel the wrong views of materialists, the two truths of the knowable that are in accordance with dependent origination are repeated as per other schools of thought. Considering that it can prevent the two truths from becoming real objects, the praises of the complete Buddhas and other Madhyamikas are indeed true. Even so, such dependent origination and emptiness, etc., are never considered to be established by one's own system. Because, for both the nature of dependent origination and the two truths of phenomena, if examined with the reasoning of other schools of thought that say the knowable is in accordance with dependent origination, then emptiness and dependent origination, even if they are established as being able to withstand examination, are not considered easy to find and establish in any of one's own or other schools of thought. The phenomena of dependent origination are also only spoken of from the perspective of an unexamined mind to the extent that one accepts the continuity of worldly conventional terms. In the face of the wisdom of the noble one's meditative equipoise, there is no application of arising or not arising in dependence and reliance, and existence or non-existence by nature, and emptiness (Sanskrit: śūnyatā, Devanagari: शून्यता, Roman: shunyata, literal meaning: emptiness) being or not being, etc., because all attachments are pacified. By whom should emptiness and dependent origination be established? Think well. Furthermore, some who lack the wealth of wisdom, without examination, merely establish the knowable as dependent origination in conventional terms. As a phenomenon, you Madhyamikas push your own system, which you yourselves have stated, to other schools of thought, saying that it is spoken by others besides the Madhyamikas, repeating what is called fame. This is not established. Because worldly innate consciousness clings to things as real, and external and internal materialists do not say that the knowable is dependent origination. If they do not say this, then there is no other possibility than the Madhyamikas' own statement. Because there are only two types of people in the world: Madhyamikas and materialistic worldly people. If it is not said by others, but only by oneself, then there is no other possibility than one's own intention. Otherwise, there is no need to say so. They say this. That fault will not occur, because those reasons are not established.

It is for the sake of establishing. In the world, merely saying that what is knowable is dependent origination is neither a proponent of substantiality nor a Madhyamaka worldly person. Such a worldly person, regardless of whether they have entered a philosophical system or not, by the power of innate or acquired wisdom, if what is knowable is not dependent origination, then what is knowable will become permanent or annihilated. If what is knowable is permanent or annihilated, then conventional terms will be cut off. Therefore, that what is knowable is not permanent or annihilated is compatible with the side of dependent origination. Realizing that it is incompatible with the side of what is knowable being substantially existent (365b), one also engages in acceptance and rejection with regard to what is knowable. That is any worldly person who has not yet understood dependent origination and emptiness, because they exist outside of the Madhyamaka worldly person. Not understanding dependent origination and emptiness is also unreasonable for the Madhyamaka. Furthermore, even if one merely understands that what is knowable is emptiness from the reason of dependent origination, the meaning of the Madhyamaka is established, but conventional terms are not established. Because they have not become a lion among debaters who can refute the evil views of themselves and others by studying, contemplating, and meditating on the scriptures that explain conventional dependent origination and ultimate emptiness. If one speaks only to oneself, it will become one's own desire. If one speaks only to oneself, all the reasons and pervasions of not speaking unnecessarily are also very mistaken. If that were the case, ordinary common people would not speak meaningless words that have no benefit or harm to themselves or others. If one speaks only to oneself, then it would follow that it is definitely not a meaningless lie. One's own desire follows one's own thoughts, but it does not follow one's own words. If the Madhyamaka understands that what is knowable is dependent origination and emptiness, then when expressing dependent origination and emptiness to others, it is not that what is knowable in one's own system is dependent origination and emptiness, and it is established by one's own system and then expressed there. Rather, as objects to be tamed, dependent origination and emptiness are expressed there merely by the reputation of others. If the dependent origination and emptiness of one's own system were established as truly existent there and then expressed there, then the Dharma nature of dependent origination and emptiness would prevent any Dharma (366a) from being established as truly existent there. Dependent origination and emptiness are established as truly existent there in that way.
