Thus, in order to prevent those who believe that as many conditioned phenomena as there are, that many unconditioned phenomena are established, and the evil views of those Yogachara practitioners who manifestly cling to Nirvana and the cessation of truth as truly established entities, the seventh is: Because they arise from conditions, the three realms, are definitely said to be conditioned. That which is empty of its own nature, that is said to be the emptiness of the conditioned. The three realms are definitely stated in the sutras to be conditioned, because the three realms arise from causes and conditions, that which is empty of its own nature is said to be the emptiness of the conditioned. The eighth is: Whatever has arising, abiding, and impermanence, that which is without these is unconditioned. That which is empty of its own nature, that is the emptiness of the unconditioned. Whatever has arising in the beginning, abiding in the middle, and impermanence in the end, which are the three characteristics of the conditioned, that which is without these is unconditioned. That which is unconditioned, which is empty of its own nature, that is the emptiness of the unconditioned. This is to prevent the clinging to permanence in unconditioned phenomena such as space. The ninth is: Whatever has no end, that is said to be beyond extremes. That which is empty of itself, is said to be the emptiness of that which is beyond extremes. Whatever has no extremes of permanence and annihilation, the Middle Way that is free from the two extremes (343b) is said to be beyond extremes. That which is beyond extremes, which is empty of itself, is said to be the emptiness of that which is beyond extremes. Some people believe that the Middle Way that is beyond extremes is permanent and substantial, but this treatise also refutes this view. The tenth is: Beginning, first, end, limit, because these are absent, samsara is said to be without beginning or end, like a dream because it is free from going and coming. This existence is devoid of that nature, that is the emptiness of beginning and end, thus it is definitely stated in the scriptures. Samsara is said to be without beginning or end, because there is no beginning, first, or end, which are limits. The meaning of the absence of beginning, middle, and end should not be taken in the sense of absence of beginning and end in the illusion of conventional truth. Rather, it should be established on the emptiness of the nature of samsara, which is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding. This existence, like a dream, is devoid of that nature, that is the emptiness of beginning and end, thus it is definitely stated in the scriptures.

In the Prajñāpāramitā treatises endowed with the merit of protecting the Dharma, it is definitely mentioned. It is free from the three: beginning, end, and middle, because it is free from coming here from before and going from here to elsewhere. The eleventh is: Abandoning is called scattering, and for losing, it is a definite statement. Non-abandonment means there is no abandonment, and what is it that nothing is abandoned? By that very non-abandonment, what emptiness is that very thing? Therefore, the non-abandonment is called emptiness. Abandoning is called scattering, and for losing, it is a definite statement, and non-abandonment means there is no abandonment in name, it is not to be abandoned, and nothing is lost, it is the virtue of the two accumulations to be taken. By that very non-abandonment, what emptiness is that very non-abandonment, that is because of that reason, non-abandonment is called emptiness. The twelfth is: The nature of conditioned things, etc., why is it that disciples, self-enlightened ones, sons of the Buddhas, and Tathāgatas, etc., did not make it, therefore, the nature of conditioned things, etc., is said to be the nature of self, what emptiness is that, that is the emptiness of self-nature. The nature of phenomena such as conditioned and unconditioned, etc., is that why disciples, self-enlightened ones, sons of the Buddhas, and Tathāgatas, etc., did not make it with knowledge and vision, whether they appear or not (344n), because the nature of all phenomena is originally the emptiness of emptiness. Because it was not made, the emptiness of the nature of phenomena such as conditioned things, etc., is said to be the nature of self, naming non-self as self. Then, in the terminology of the Madhyamaka scriptures, the nature of fire, heat, etc., should also be said to be self, because it was not made by the noble ones, etc.? If there is no examination, then saying it is not prohibited, but although heat, etc., were not made by the noble ones, it should not be self by the reason of other fame, because self must be uncreated and independent, and heat, etc., are made by ignorance, etc. Is emptiness made by the noble ones? There is such a doubt, because he did not realize it in childhood, but the noble ones saw it directly,
