It is necessary. Although the object of negation as a reason is not present in the knowable, the emptiness of negating it is present in the knowable, therefore the ultimate truth exists in the conventional truth. The ultimate truth (༣༣༤ན) is not the ultimate truth, so it is necessary to distinguish between where it exists and where it is. When measuring beings and aggregates, etc., which are the basis of emptiness, with valid conventional cognition as truly infallible, then through the nature of that, the emptiness of the absence of true self and the absence of self are also understood indirectly as the basis being established by valid rational cognition. They say so. No matter how cleverly this view is expressed, it only stirs up the essence of conceptualization that clings to the entities and natures of the two truths as being completely separate and distinct. This is completely inverted speech, because it contradicts the school that speaks in accordance with the knowable, the conventional truth of the world, and dependent origination. If that is the case, is the truly established object of negation as a reason that is not present in the knowable, an object of negation as a reason in the knowable? If according to the first case, then the knowable as the subject, it follows that the object of negation as a reason, truly established, exists in the knowable. Because the object of negation as a reason that is not present in the knowable is negated by reason in the knowable. This is pervasive. If truly established is negated in the knowable, then when negating any of the truly established that exist or do not exist in the knowable, if negating the truly established that is not present in the knowable, then there is no choice but to establish the truly established that exists. Because you, in all Madhyamaka rational occasions, say that truly understanding with double negation is the lifeblood of reason. And, after the object of negation as a reason enters the realm of consciousness, it is negated by the wisdom of consciousness, and other than that, in the world (༣༣༤བ) there is no other way to establish its existence. Also, if you say that the truly established that is not present in the knowable exists in the knowable, thus clinging to the extreme of permanence, negating the truly established that is not present in the knowable, will it not become the truly established that exists in the knowable? Then, just as it is impossible for such a truly established to exist in the knowable by clinging to the extreme of permanence, so too, the absence of truth related to it is merely clinging to the extreme of permanence, therefore it is also impossible for it to exist in the knowable. If there is such an absence of truth, then it must be recognized that there must also be such a truly established, existing in the form of clinging to the extreme of permanence, you yourselves say so.

From the ground (of phenomena), what is it that you establish yourself as devoid of inherent existence by relying on its non-existence? Because such true establishment only clings to the extreme of permanence in the knowable, and apart from that, it does not exist in the knowable. If it is said that the first sign is not pervasive, then it is established that it is pervasive. Because the non-existence of self as true, that which is to be refuted, the true establishment, does not exist in the knowable, and if it could exist, it would arise; if it cannot exist, it will not arise. These two are established in dependence, so if one is completely non-existent, the other that relies on it will also never arise. Furthermore, if one says that the object of negation of the sign does not exist in the knowable, but exists in the knowable, then even with a slight inclination of the mind towards the usage of the eight inflections of sound, etc., please do not sing that lament of shame as a song. According to the second way, do not openly deny that you yourself establish in the knowable that the object of negation of the sign does not exist in the knowable. Furthermore, when the true establishment, the object of negation of the sign that does not exist in the knowable, is negated in the knowable, then, subject, it is reasonable to accept that the non-true existence, the object of negation of the sign that exists in the knowable, exists, because you (p. 335a) always genuinely accept the two negations of your own system in the Madhyamaka reasoning. If you accept, then the non-true existence, the object of negation of the sign that exists in the knowable, subject, should not be other than the aggregates, etc., of the object of negation, because it is the non-true existence of the knowable. If you accept, then it is not the object of negation of the sign, because of accepting that. Furthermore, if there is no object of negation in conventional truth, then saying that the emptiness that negates it exists in conventional truth is slandering the dependent arising of the knowable, because it is like saying in the world that there is no firewood as a cause, but it is burned by fire, and then Mount Sumeru arises from the pile of ashes as a result. Therefore, when the glorious protector Nagarjuna explained the intention of the fully enlightened Buddha, if there is no analysis, then the object of negation, the negator, and the negated are all established in dependence, and if there is analysis, then he is satisfied with thinking that all three are free from the extremes of elaboration, but when you analyze, for your own system, the object of negation is not established in the knowable, and you accept that the negator and the negated are established. In that case, the negator and the negation become the ultimate truth, and in meaning, it is also accepted that they are established as being able to withstand analysis, so wise ones, please think carefully about this reason. Saying that the ultimate truth is not the ultimate truth that exists, this is also
