It is absolutely impossible to establish truth and self-nature as one's own system even in name. Because saying that, in the world, if other well-known terms are not reasonable, in order to refute it with other well-known terms that are dependent on it, it is only necessary to follow others to say it, so the Madhyamikas say that. For the Madhyamikas, there is not the slightest intention to say emptiness and self-nature. Because for the two truths, all the elaborations of what is said and what can be said that have become self-nature cannot be established by any measure, so all such elaborations are pacified, because they are not happy to declare the self-nature that does not destroy the reality. Such a profound meaning of Madhyamika has not been understood, and even people like Sakya Chokden (དཔལ་ཤཱཀྱ་མཆོག་ལྡན) seem to explain it this way: In the self-system of the Prasangikas, the self-nature of conventional truth cannot establish self-nature, and they admit that the true self-nature is the self-nature of ultimate truth emptiness that is truly established. Moreover, in the case of refuting the self in the middle, if it is not admitted in that way, one will not know that the self-nature of selflessness, emptiness, is the ultimate truth. Even so, in the case of refuting all views, they do not want to be established as the self-nature of ultimate truth. It is unreasonable to say that. When the Prasangikas practice reality, no matter who thinks that the self-nature, truth, essence, and self, etc., established by their own system in name, are established in the face of ultimate truth, they vigorously declare that such self-nature and truth are not established in the two truths, thereby refuting the self-truth of phenomena and persons. Like you, in the case of refuting the self, you refute the truth and the self on the subject of the conventional dharma, and then establish the self-truth on the dharma-nature ultimate truth. Like that, the Prasangikas do not have a place to admit in the case of refuting the self in the middle. If they admit that, the Prasangikas will then literally admit the false aspect school of the Cittamātra, and if they also admit that, then the Cittamātra who speaks of false aspects must admit the Madhyamika who speaks of self-emptiness, and the Madhyamika who speaks of no self-nature, the ultimate divided by the two truths.

That which says that things are established as truly existent by their very nature (324b), this nihilist who speaks of inherent existence has not appeared before in the holy land or in the land of snows, so what kind of thing is this nihilist who speaks of inherent existence and nature? Also, when you refute the self, if you establish the unreal nature of the conventional as the truly established nature of the ultimate, have you not remembered that the consequentialist's characteristic is to negate true establishment and not to establish non-existence? Therefore, to say that in the consequentialist's own system, one must make many distinctions between situations of whether or not to accept true establishment, is not something that arises from the conduct of the wise in order to distinguish the subtle appearances of the two truths in name only. Because in the profound scriptures of the Middle Way, sometimes both truths are said to be without inherent existence, and sometimes the ultimate truth is said to have inherent existence, seeing that the contradictions that appear in this way fall on one basis, and changing that basis to another, hoping to abandon that contradiction, is a dark illusion of fools. In the middle, if the ultimate truth has inherent existence in the context of refuting the self, then it will not become without inherent existence even in the context of refuting all the bases of view. In the middle, if there is no inherent existence in the context of refuting the self, then seeing it as inherent existence there is a wrong view. Even if the inherent existence of the ultimate truth is established there, it cannot be established by valid cognition, so in the middle, in the context of refuting the self, how can the ultimate be established as truly established? Delve into your mind and think well. Therefore, the great teacher Chandrakirti said this: The self of the conventional truth, such as persons and dharmas, etc., from beginningless coemergent ignorance, relying on the aggregates, the nature of the person as the basis of cause and effect, and relying on the elements such as earth, the nature of producing self-grasping consciousness such as form, is the nature and essence of persons and dharmas, and the inverted grasping that presumes that it exists truly there is the object of refutation by the correct reasoning of the wisdom of hearing and thinking, and such a grasping of reality is the object of refutation by the path of meditative yogic direct perception, so the objects of refutation by reason and path are: The conventional truth is not true, but it is invertedly seen as nature or truth.
