It is. It desires other objects besides undesirable forms, etc., and those two aspects can be seen on objects. Therefore, there is no self, because it is separate from the dharma of objects. Your substantial self is considered not different from the nature of consciousness itself. Just as one desires objects other than forms, etc., the self is not different from itself, nor is it different from others. Therefore, the self is not substantial, because it is separate from the dharma of objects. Because those two aspects, this and other, can be seen on substantial objects, like pots, etc. It is also unreasonable to be known by the six consciousnesses, because the eye consciousness relies on form and focuses on a person, thus becoming known by the eye. If one does not say form and non-form, then it becomes nominally existent like milk and water, etc. Because it is the object of eye consciousness, it also becomes different from sound. This is the same for others, and it also contradicts the statement that the objects of the five senses are different, because a person is known by all five sense consciousnesses. The Bhagavan said that all phenomena to be directly known and fully understood are included in the eighteen realms, the six contacts, and the feelings arising from the cause of contact, which contradicts this statement. If a person is not any of the twelve sources, then it becomes non-existent. If it is a source, it also contradicts not being expressible. Third, therefore, the basis of self-grasping is not an object, not other than the aggregates, not the nature of the aggregates, not the aggregates as the basis, and this is not possessed by them. When examining, the reason why a person is not substantially existent is that the basis or object of self-grasping, when examined, (༢༩༦ན) is not a substantially existent object that is neither this nor other. It is also not other than the aggregates, nor the nature of the aggregates, and the aggregates are not the basis, and this self is not one who possesses the aggregates. In the third, briefly state, explain extensively through the door of example and meaning, and show that all other kinds are also merely imputed, these three. The first is that this is accomplished by relying on the aggregates. If a person is prevented by many reasons, is the person completely non-existent? If it is said that it is only for the purpose of not cutting off the establishment of the conventional truth that "this arises by relying on this," then there is no cause.

Just as it is not produced from the aggregates, when examining the self, one must also exclude the substantially existent person with faults as mentioned earlier. This self is established by relying on the aggregates, and it can be established merely in this way. In order to establish terminology, worldly people see that the term 'self' is merely this. Second, the illustrative metaphor and the meaning illustrated by the metaphor. First, there are two: showing and explaining. The first is: The chariot itself is not thought to be different from its parts, Nor non-different, nor possessing them, Nor in the parts, nor the parts in it, Nor merely an assemblage, nor a shape, just so. The chariot itself is not considered different from its own parts, such as rivets, because it is not seen as separate from them. Nor is it non-different, for if it were, the agent and the action would become one, and there would be the fault of the chariot being present in each individual part. Nor does it possess those parts, for since there is no 'it' and 'other,' there is no meaning to possessing. The chariot does not rely on the parts, nor do the parts rely on the chariot, because they are not other. Nor is it merely an assemblage of parts, for the faults have already been mentioned. Nor is the shape the chariot, for it will be harmed by the reasoning that will be explained. Just as one cannot find a chariot when examined in seven ways, so it is. Second, refuting the parts, refuting the possessor of parts without parts. First, jointly refuting the latter two positions. Separately refuting the two shapes. First, merely refuting the collection, jointly refuting the two shapes. The first is: If it is said that merely the collection is the chariot, Then even when scattered, there should be a chariot. If it is said that merely the collection of parts is the chariot, then when the parts such as rivets are scattered and remain, there should also be a chariot, because the collection is not different from that which has the collection. The second is: Since there is no possessor of parts, there are no parts, Therefore, merely the shape is not reasonable as a chariot. Since there is no possessor of parts, there are no parts, because those are established in dependence. If there is no possessor of parts, there are no parts, so merely the shape of the collection of parts is not a chariot. The particle འང་ also indicates that merely the collection is not a chariot. Second, refuting the shape as existing substantially. If it is nominally existent, then everything
