Indeed, those Many-Honored Ones of the non-Buddhist schools who claim to abandon the self, according to their view, as long as the continuity of the aggregates is not severed, self-grasping will arise, because the basis of self-grasping has not been reversed, since the aggregates themselves are the self. This statement is very strange, for when a yogi realizes selflessness, because he knows that there is no permanent self that is different from the aggregates, he also completely uproots the seed of the view of self that has the aggregates as its object. Because they are not related to each other. Even if you abandon the permanent self that is fabricated as different from the aggregates and declare that it does not exist, the world does not consider this permanent self that is different from the aggregates to be the basis of self-grasping, so the world cannot reverse the view of self that has become the basis of self-grasping in the aggregates. The meaning here is that, for the aggregates, all sentient beings innately view them as the self, and the sectarian masters add fabrications of conditioned, unconditioned, permanent, impermanent, etc., to the object of the innate view of self, and proclaim the self. If the self that is the object of innate self-grasping and imputed self-grasping is real, then where do the real entities of conditioned, unconditioned, permanent, and impermanent exist? When the imputed self is negated, the innate (292a) self will not be negated as well. Because if the innate self is real, then it must also be either permanent or impermanent, either conditioned or unconditioned. Since the imputed self cannot be established by analysis, the self that is the object of the innate view of self is also equally not established as real. Just as when the four extremes of arising of sprouts, etc., are negated, the innate arising is also negated. However, here, the Many-Honored Ones have made a mistake in their admission, and have had to actually admit that the self that is different from the aggregates is the innate self. If that is the case, then according to your view, the innate self and self-view that are universally known to sentient beings cannot be abandoned. This is a criticism. That is, the Many-Honored Ones believe that the self as a person is permanent, one, independent, and different from the aggregates; and that the self and sentient beings are impermanent and exist within the aggregates. They believe that by negating the former self, the latter self will also be negated.
