Just as one relies on various parts to call it a chariot, similarly, one relies on the aggregates to call it a conventional being. Thus it is said. Second, the sutra says that it exists in reliance on the aggregates, therefore the collection of aggregates is not self. The collection of aggregates is not self, because the sutra says that relying on the aggregates, one is nominally designated as self, I, sentient being, and person (Sanskrit: pudgala). Second, if it is said to be shape, that is because it exists in tangible things. You would also think that those tangible things themselves are the self. The collection of mind and so on is not the self itself, because they have no shape. Moreover, the collection of wheels and so on is not just a chariot, but when the wheels and so on have the distinction of shape, then the name of the chariot is obtained, similarly, the collection of form and so on is not just the self, but if it is said that the shape of the arrangement of form and so on is the self, that is not correct. Because the shape exists in tangible things, and you would think that those tangible things themselves are the self. In this way, the nature of the collection of the four names of mind and so on is not the self itself, because they have no shape. Third, refuting substance and action without an agent. First, the receiver and the proximate receiver cannot be the same substance. If so, the agent and the action would become the same. The proximate receiver, that is, myself, and the proximate receiver, that is, the substance of the aggregates to be taken, cannot be the same, if so, the action and the agent would become the same, therefore, the form and the vase and the potter, which are caused by the four elements, would also become the same. The treatise says: If the wood is fire, the agent and the action will become the same. Thus it is said. Second, if one thinks that there is action without an agent, that is wrong. Because without an agent there is no action. If one thinks that there is no proximate agent, but only the proximate action, that is, the collection of proximate forms and so on, that is wrong. Because if there is no agent (cause), there will be no action. The treatise says: Therefore, the receiver and the action are not other, nor is it the proximate receiver itself. I am not without a proximate receiver, nor can it be determined that it does not exist. Thus it is said. Therefore, wherever the agent (291a) is not visible, but the action exists, and it is explained in detail

Therefore, the statement that "it exists" should be understood as a negation of the truth of the agent. Furthermore, the agent who is established merely on the basis of reputation and has become a branch of nomenclature is not negated. As it is said, "This person who is associated with ignorance also manifestly accumulates merit." This is extensively discussed. Third, because the Thubpa (Buddha) said that the self is earth, water, fire, wind, and consciousness, space, which are called the six elements, and the six bases of contact, such as the eye, are shown from the six supports, and having taken hold of the mind and mental phenomena, he said, therefore it is not those, nor is it their self, nor is it merely a collection, therefore the mind that grasps at self is not on those. Because the Thubpa said in the sutra, "Great King, a person is the six elements, the six sources of contact, and the eighteen mental activities." So, that self is earth, water, fire, wind, and consciousness, space, which are called the six elements, and the gathering from the eye, etc., up to the mind, is shown by relying on the six supports of contact, that is, relying on the six objects such as form, six pleasant mental activities, six unpleasant mental activities, and six neutral mental activities, a total of eighteen, taking hold of the mind and mental phenomena, and definitely saying that this is the "self." Therefore, that self is not the self that is different from those dharmas, nor is it merely a collection of those dharmas, because those dharmas cannot become the "self," therefore the mind that grasps at self on those dharmas is not reasonable. Therefore, since the yogi does not find an object of grasping at self other than the aggregates, he knows that there is no "self" and "mine," cuts off the continuum of the five aggregates, and enters nirvana without taking hold, therefore this investigation of no-self is very beautiful. Second, it is not appropriate to treat unrelated things as antidotes, and to eliminate this through examples. First, when one realizes no-self, one abandons the permanent self, and this is not considered a basis for grasping at self. Therefore, it is very strange to say that by understanding no-self, one can also completely eliminate the view of self. It is thought that when one later attains the path of seeing, one abandons the object of grasping at the aggregates as one, but does not abandon the object.
