Alas, it is necessary to establish a way that cannot remove the non-self. Here it is said: Those who have passed through many eons in the animal realm, They have not seen the self that is the basis of karmic results, But attachment to self is seen even in those, Therefore, there is no self other than the aggregates. This also needs to be considered. Furthermore, you should also accept the dharma of the existing self and the non-existent self in the knowable. Because you accept both the self to be refuted and the self to be accepted, and you think that the former does not exist even in the knowable. The reason is accepted, the pervasion is valid. If you accept, then it is very good, all of your own tenets (280a) will be consistent and firm. Furthermore, if you think that the self to be refuted is not a dharma, then the self to be refuted will not have the characteristic of generating self-grasping. What is the distinction between being a dharma and not being a dharma based on whether or not it possesses characteristics? Because the self to be refuted in the reason is not established as a dharma. If you accept, then the subject of the reason's self to be refuted is the subject, it is not the object to be refuted of the reason. Because it is not the dharma that generates self-grasping. Furthermore, you think that the real dharma that is the basis of karmic results, which is imputed by conceptual thought, is established by valid cognition even by ordinary people, birds, and wild animals. If you are not satisfied with the mere existence of imputation, and if you seek the meaning of such imputation, then that is going to the investigation of reality, which is a unique speculation of the consequentialists. If you say that, then the conventional truth of dependent origination, which is known to the general world, and the conventional dependent origination that the perfect Buddha and the teacher Nagarjuna clearly explained as true in terms of language, will not need to be understood by sentient beings through the stainless reasoning of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Because the conventional meaning of dependent origination is the dharma that arises in dependence on imputation, and even all ordinary people know that the basis of karmic results is merely imputed, and they know that it can function as such, and they are satisfied with that, so people (280b) do not specifically seek the meaning of the Middle Way, so they do not seek the meaning of imputation. If you accept, then you yourself think that dependent origination can only be understood by the omniscient,

Didn't you also praise the teacher through realization? Furthermore, if all phenomena are nothing other than imputation and establishment, then is the object of negation of the sign imputed and established or not? If it is, then it follows that it exists nominally like other conventional phenomena, because it exists as a phenomenon of imputation and establishment. If it is not, then it follows that the object of negation of the sign exists as substance and object established from its own side, and exists in knowable things, because the object of negation of the sign is a phenomenon of either substance or imputation, since it is not an imputed phenomenon. If the first sign is not established, then it follows that the object of negation of the sign is not suitable to be an object of mind, because it does not exist in any knowable thing of substance or imputation. If there is no pervasion, then such an object of negation of the sign, the subject, it follows that it exists in knowable things, because it is suitable to be an object of mind. If it is not pervasive, if it is suitable to be an object of mind, then one must hold a distinguished tenet that cannot exclude non-knowable things, so the tenet is good. If you agree with the above, then it follows that the innate clinging to truth that grasps the object of negation of the sign will never arise in sentient beings, because the object of negation of the sign is not suitable to be an object of mind. There is no choice but to agree. In that case, all sentient beings will be liberated effortlessly, so we are very fond of this system, because now the wheel of samsara will cease. (281a) Therefore, the self of the object of negation of the sign, since it is not established in that and that, if it is not imputed and established by the mind of grasping that is established in that and that, because it is established from its own side, so it is not established like that, therefore such an object of negation of the sign must be completely non-existent in the mind, but it is not like that either. You believe that the object of negation of the sign is not established by conceptualization, it is only your belief, but it does not exist in reality, just like in the face of the conceptualization of grasping a snake in a variegated rope, it is not a snake but is merely established as a snake by conceptualization. If conceptualization does not establish the variegated rope as a snake, then the knowledge of snake-grasping on the variegated rope will not appear in the mindstream of a person, which is manifestly established to all the world by experience, therefore all rational objects of negation and objects to be established are imputedly existent in this Madhyamaka system. Moreover, according to your view, the object to be established of the sign should also be completely non-existent in knowable things, because if the object of negation is completely non-existent, then the object to be established is also equally non-existent, because all negation and establishment are dependent on establishment.
