That. If the three are without, each one is without. If one is without, the three are also without. Each one is not self-existent. How can they come together to arise? Thus, even the atoms of earth, water, fire, and wind, etc., do not exist as single, indivisible entities without depending on other atoms. Because without conditions, they do not arise from their own nature. If it is asserted that the basis of imputation exists as a substance, then it should only exist as a ultimately existent substance. It is not reasonable for something that does not exist as a conventional substance to arise, because in ultimate truth, what is truly established is permanent, and therefore, non-existent things that are not established there do not arise. The Four Hundred says: How can things that arise from the permanent become impermanent? The characteristics of cause and effect are different; it has never been seen. Thus. Therefore, depending on the collection of conventionally existent mirrors and faces, etc., only the imputation of images can be observed. Depending on conventionally existent pillars, etc., it is imputed as a house. Similarly, depending on the support of trees, it is imputed as a forest. Just as in a dream, one sees a sprout with an unarisen nature arising from a seed with an unarisen nature, the imputation of all conventionally existent things should also have a basis for imputation. The scriptures say: Just as the Buddha emanates, a perfect emanation of miraculous transformation, and so on, like a city of gandharvas, like a mirage, a dream. Thus it is said. In the second part, there are two aspects: the actual explanation of conventional arising as dependent origination, and the benefits of understanding dependent origination. The first is: Because things do not arise from no cause, from the cause of a lord, etc., or from both self and other, therefore, they arise dependently. If you refute arising from the four extremes, then how is it established that ignorance and action give rise to consciousness, and that earth and sprouts, etc., arise conventionally? In order not to cut off the worldly conventions that are proclaimed without investigation, these effects, such as sprouts, arise dependently on the cause and conditions of the mere appearance of seeds. Why? Because, as stated above, things do not arise in either of the two truths from no cause, from the cause of a lord, etc., or from self, other, or both.

Therefore, it is like that. As it is said (261b): The Blessed One said: The sign of the Dharma is this, namely: This being, that arises; this arising, that originates; that is, due to the condition of ignorance, there are actions, and so on. In the Ratnavali, it says: This being, that arises, for example, if there is long, there is short; this arising, that originates, for example, if there is a lamp, there is light. And, the treatise says: The agent relies on the action, and the action also relies on the agent itself, apart from arising in dependence, the cause of establishment is not seen. Likewise, the immediate cause should be understood, in order to eliminate action and agent. The agent and the actions, should be understood as the remaining things. Saying that it is only these conditions, is speaking in accordance with the world. Therefore, arising relying only on these conditions, although it harms the establishment of arising and ceasing of the mundane substantialists, it does not contradict the common worldly arising and ceasing, therefore the conventional term is also not inconsistent with the conventional, and it also agrees with the nature of the ultimate truth, this worldly conformity exists and is established in general as long as the world makes conventional establishments. However, there is no other means or method to enter the ultimate from this conventional dependent arising, therefore, such a term of conventional dependent arising, in accordance with the world, speaking literally in accordance, only the noble being called Madhyamaka has it, from the Charvaka to the Mind-Only (262a) in between, others do not have it. Moreover, most of the conventional truths that others assert, not only cannot serve as a basis for entering the ultimate, but also in terms of terminology, they are mostly established as having no basis for acceptance or rejection. Even if it is without examination, the conventional dependent arising of terminology is imposed with various fabrications. Even so, this conventional dependent arising is not established by the Madhyamaka's own system. The Madhyamikas establish the conventional truth as the dependent arising Dharma in the eyes of ordinary beings, which is also the dependent arising Dharma spoken by the substantialists.
