. Two similarities in reasoning. First, there is similarity in the minds of both noble ones and ordinary beings; and similarity in analysis (243a) and non-analysis. The first is: Abiding in the truth of the mundane, all five aggregates are praised by the world. If one wishes to generate the wisdom of realization, then these five aggregates will not arise for the yogi. Is the existence of inner consciousness without external objects from the cognition of children or from the vision of noble ones? If it is like the former, then all five aggregates exist in their cognition, as mentioned above, because the wisdom of ordinary beings abides in the truth of what is seen, so all five aggregates exist, as praised by the world. If it is like the latter, then these five aggregates will not arise for the yogi, because when one wishes to generate the wisdom of realization, that is, when one realizes, all phenomena of elaboration are pacified. The second is: If there is no form, then one should not cling to having mind. Even if there is mind, one should not cling to having no form. Having no form and having mind is not reasonable in either analysis or non-analysis. When analyzing, if there is no form, then one should not cling to having mind, because these two are interdependent. When not analyzing, even if there is mind, one should not cling to having no form, because this is recognized as existing in the world. The second is: These principles of wisdom, the Buddha, in the sutras, equally abandoned, and spoke of in the Abhidharma. Having no form and having mind does not accord with the meaning of definitive and provisional sutras. Because in the sutras of wisdom such as the Prajnaparamita, the Buddha equally abandoned form, etc., that is, from "form is empty of its own nature" to "consciousness is empty of its own nature," and in the Abhidharma, by distinguishing in detail the self-characteristics and common characteristics, etc., he spoke of all five aggregates as existing. The second is: Even if you destroy these sequences of the two truths, you will not be able to establish it by negating your substance. To say that there is no form and there is mind is a futile effort, because if you say that, you will destroy the sequences of the two truths as previously stated, which are in accordance with the scriptures and fame. Even if you destroy (243b), you will not be able to establish it by negating your other-powered substance. The third is: Therefore, through such a sequence, things from the beginning, that unborn truth, the world arising should be known. Therefore,

All phenomena are not originally produced in that way, and it should be understood that they are produced only in worldly terms. Because of that statement, because it is established by such a sequence of teachings and reasoning. Secondly, the sutras say that mind-only is provisional, and the reasoning of its proof is explained. Incidentally, the distinction between definitive and provisional is explained, there are three points. The first point is: Which sutra says that external appearances do not exist, and the mind appears in various ways. For those who are very attached to form, the antidote to form is also provisional. Also, even if the meaning of the Ten Bhumi Sutra can be said in that way, it is certain in other sutras that it is mind-only. As the Lankavatara Sutra says: Whether external appearances exist or not, the mind appears in various ways, body and enjoyment, dwelling place, etc., I say it is mind-only. The body is the eyes, etc., the object is form, etc., and the dwelling place is the container world. It is not established outside of the mind, and the mind-only appears as the body, etc. That appears as an external object outside of the mind, is the three realms mind-only? Which sutra says that external things do not exist, but the mind itself appears as various things such as the body, that is intentional. The basis of the intention is that those who are particularly attached to form, enter into attachment, etc. because of that cause, accumulate great sins, and fall away from the two accumulations. In order to let all the wise ones abandon the attachment, etc. that are caused by form, they cultivate ugliness as it is said, and counteract form (244n). It is not shown there in order to counteract it and for the sake of the existence of the mind, because that sutra also says that it is provisional. Secondly, there are two proofs, teaching and reasoning. First, there is the proof that this sutra is provisional, and it also shows that other sutras like this are also provisional, there are two kinds. The first is: This is what the teacher said is provisional, and this is also in accordance with reason that it is provisional. This sutra, as it will be said below, the teacher said in the Lankavatara Sutra that it is provisional, and this is also in accordance with the reason that will be explained that it is provisional. The second is: Other sutras like that, are also clearly shown by this sutra to be provisional. Not only is this sutra provisional, but it is also determined by Vijnanavada.
