Neither object nor consciousness can be completely separated, because all consciousnesses are the objects of other consciousnesses, and because sentient beings are a single continuum of consciousness. The appearance of multiple consciousnesses arising simultaneously is like piercing a hundred-petaled lotus with a needle; they arise in succession, but because they enter so quickly, they are mistaken for being one. Therefore, if self-awareness is not acknowledged, it is impossible to avoid the fault of infinite regress. Moreover, it is established that the memory of both the form I saw before and the consciousness of seeing it in that way arises later. If the nature of the consciousness of seeing form before does not itself cognize itself as self-aware, then it is not reasonable to have a memory with that as its object. If you say that the memory of both objects, arising later, such as "I saw form before," establishes that its cause is the experience of both object and consciousness, then self-awareness with the meaning of self-experience is established. If that is established, then it is known by that very self-awareness that there is other-dependence. If that is the case, then positing the memory that establishes other-dependence as the means of establishing self-awareness is such that, in order to establish self-awareness that is not established in the ultimate sense, this specially stated memory is not the means of establishing that self-awareness, because, like self-awareness, memory is also not established in the ultimate sense, since it does not arise from self, other, etc. However, if one examines, memory cannot be established as the establisher of self-awareness in the ultimate sense, but if one thinks that memory establishes self-awareness in the context of the unexamined conventional, then it is not established in that way even in the conventional (228a). If, in the conventional, self-awareness and memory are definitely related as cause and effect like smoke and fire, then it could be established in that way, but because such a cause-and-effect relationship is not established, because self-awareness is not only the cause of memory, and if self-awareness itself is not established, then the memory, which is the effect caused by it, is also not established. In this way, even if there is no self-awareness in the conventional, only memory arises, because it arises from the conditions that give rise to memory. Just seeing water and fire does not necessarily require the existence of water crystal and fire crystal, but just as water and fire arise from rain and the wood and tinder for rubbing fire. Therefore, if you posit the memory, which is the effect of the cause of self-awareness that existed previously, as the sign of establishment, then you do not have self-awareness as the cause of such a memory.

the fruit of birth, memory does not arise. Therefore, as you wish, self-awareness is not only not established as the cause of memory, but also, in order to establish self-awareness that is not established in both truths, this non-establishment of saying the word of memory is not the establisher of self-awareness. Just as sound is impermanent for the object of the eye, the causal relationship is not established. Second, because it is other, it is not the object of memory, and abandoning what is similar to oneself, two. First: Although the establishment of self-awareness is necessary, even so, it is not reasonable for memory to remember, because it is other, just as it arises in an unknown continuum. This reasoning also destroys the differences. Also, abandoning this way of observation, just like admitting that there is self-awareness, refutes: The self-awareness that experiences both the consciousness that knows the object, even if it is established, is necessary. Even so, the later consciousness of memory, it is not reasonable to remember the previous object consciousness, because the previous experience and the later memory are different entities. For example, the memory in the continuum of Maitreya does not remember the self-awareness and object experience produced in the continuum of the near-hidden that one has not known. If it is said that even if it is other, it can be remembered, because the previous experience and the later memory belong to one continuum and exist in the things of cause and effect. Then, because it is other, this reasoning also destroys the differences such as belonging to one continuum and existing in the things of cause and effect. Whatever is other, it pervades that it is not the consciousness of experience, does not belong to one continuum, and does not exist in the things of cause and effect. For example, the consciousness of other continuums. The later memory and the consciousness of experience are other, different from the previous consciousness of self-awareness. And so on, to be widely refuted. Second: Because by whom the object is experienced, therefore, from then on, this memory is not what I possess. Therefore, I will think "I saw", memory will arise. This is also the way of worldly expression. Then, you will not produce the previous experience and the later memory, because it is other. If so, I, the Madhyamaka, for the previous experience and the later memory, after observation, from the reason that there was self-awareness before, the later memory arises, etc., is not established, without observation, for the world
