If my object truly exists, by which subject would its existence be known? Having raised this doubt, it is unreasonable for oneself to grasp it, because it is contradictory for oneself to act on oneself, like fire not burning itself. It is also not the case that other consciousnesses, such as the prior consciousness, grasp it, because it contradicts one's own tenets. If another consciousness is the object of consciousness, then what is said by the mere Mind-Only proponents would be ruined. It is also not permissible to say that it exists without being grasped by any subject, because it is too extreme. Here, in the writings of wise and impartial former scholars, it is said that according to the Mind-Only system, the consciousness that is empty of both grasper and grasped is self-aware, self-illuminating, and perfectly established, and because it is unconditioned, it is not possessed by ordinary beings; it is conditioned and is a non-erroneous perfectly established nature, therefore it is not ultimate truth; it is ultimate, but it is not ultimate truth; other-powered nature exists conventionally, but does not exist ultimately, and so on. Such statements are made by those who have not fully turned their minds to the ocean of Madhyamaka and Mind-Only treatises. Because in all Mind-Only treatises, the non-dual wisdom is considered to be the other-powered ultimate truth, and in all Madhyamaka treatises, it is refuted. As it is said: "The consciousness that is liberated from grasper and grasped is ultimately existent." This is the treatise of the Yogacara school, proclaiming the crossing to the other shore. The wise do not accept that that consciousness is also ultimately existent, because it is devoid of the nature of one and many, like a lotus in the sky. Also, in the *Madhyantavibhaga* it says: "The unreal imputation exists, in it the two do not exist, emptiness exists in this, in it also this is accepted." Also, in the commentary it says: "'By nature' is the remainder of the sentence." Thus, the two are completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn, but if the unreal imputation exists by nature in the ultimate. Also, in the commentary on the *Thirty Verses* it says: "Or some think that just as consciousness is a real entity, so is the knowable; others think that just as the knowable is, so is consciousness also conventionally existent, but not ultimately existent. In order to refute these two extreme views, this treatise was composed.
