When its appearance, both the object and consciousness arise, but when it is free from the faults of arising from causes and conditions, because it depends on it, all the elaborations of both the object and consciousness are pacified, so it is without an object of focus. Therefore, in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is said: Even if there is a Dharma more superior than the Tathagata, it is like an illusion and a dream. In short, the so-called idea of pus flowing in a river refers to the fact that humans and hungry ghosts are mutually visible, residing together, and in front of both, without absolute concealment and obstruction, hungry ghosts have the idea of a river of pus, and humans have the idea of a river of clear water. But it is not that the human's clear water river appears as the hungry ghost's idea of pus, nor does the hungry ghost's pus river appear as the human's idea of clear water. Because there, the basis of appearance is one self-established entity, but due to many self-established causes and conditions, in front of different beings, things will become many self-established entities, and each different thing is not established as its own functional entity. If the clear water river that appears to humans is not established as the nature and essence of the clear water river, then because there is no basis for difference, it is impossible for hungry ghosts to observe it as a characteristic of the newly born pus river, whether it existed there before or not. Therefore, even if there is no substantial basis that can be considered a thing anywhere, different beings can observe infinite contradictory things anywhere. Even in the place of the smallest particle, due to the power of karma, different classes of beings can manifest countless appearances of worlds with millions of yojanas, as described in those sutras. Moreover, we, with our narrow perspective, cannot fathom its reasoning. Even in the relative truth, the power of karma, wish-fulfilling jewels, and mantras are said to be inconceivable. If it were not so, just as Manjushri taught the great Tsongkhapa, in a river flowing with clear water, there are rivers flowing with blood, rivers flowing with pus, etc., and newly born things conceal each other, but do not conceal each other from their respective beings, and it must be said that there are self-established things that have function. If so, then according to the views of those Madhyamikas who appeared in China and Tibet in the past, it is unreasonable. Because all Dharmas have

If one speaks of the Middle Way to eliminate both extremes of asserting "it exists" and denying "it does not exist," then, the conventional as seen by the six types of beings, which appears as infallible self-evidence, seems to be established by valid cognition in the face of each individual's mind not being obscured by temporary delusion, but it is not established as such because it is deceptive and false. Even if that which is established by valid cognition exists in the face of each individual's mind not being obscured by temporary delusion, it does not prove its existence because the mind that is not obscured by temporary delusion is also not established as valid cognition, because it is a non-valid (219b) consciousness obscured by fundamental delusion. For the delusion obscured by conditions, all the characteristics of the conventional object-consciousness are merely imputed and designated, but the establishment of such a thing as having a function is because the noble ones, when equally abiding in the meaning of the two truths of that conventional thing, do not see anything at all. This is extensively explained. Therefore, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, from form to omniscience, do not have the nature of things established by conventional valid cognition, and there is no movement other than emptiness abiding in equality. If the consciousness of the six types of beings in samsara, along with its objects and persons, is not established by its own nature, then how can the consciousness of non-abiding nirvana, which transcends samsara, along with its objects and persons, be allowed to be established by its own nature? For example, if one dreams of crossing a great river and reaching the other shore, it is impossible to reach the other shore because there is no river there. Therefore, it is said: The Thus-Gone One is also like an illusion and a dream, and even if there is a dharma superior to that, it is also like an illusion and a dream. Applying the meaning by taking an example, then all things included in samsara and nirvana, Buddhas and sentient beings, are empty and unestablished by themselves, and abide in equality, just as a magical horse is empty of itself and does not exist there. Therefore, according to your view, if a pebble or a piece of wood is obscured by a mantra, then a magical horse, a self-evident thing with a function (220n), is newly born, and you would have to say that.
