Where should conventional truth be established, one must examine whether it is true or not. Because it is necessary to establish a completely false, true dharma. If it is not established in this way, there is no way to enter the ultimate truth. Because where there is no falsehood, there is no truth. Because conventional truth is the supreme method for entering the ultimate truth. Therefore, without examination, worldly people believe that a son is born from his father, and also born from the womb of another mother different from the father. Therefore, if these conventional things are analyzed, one cannot find anything in the nature of the ultimate truth, which is unrelated to birth and death, and on the other hand, one cannot find a place where conventional birth and death can be established. When thinking about the ultimate truth, one should analyze conventional dharma. When worldly people establish conventional truth without analysis, one should not analyze the worldly statements of truth. Therefore, without analysis, the saying "if this exists, then that arises" seen by worldly people should only be a repetition of other people's words, because one must rely on its acceptance and rejection to enter the ultimate truth. As it is said: Just as barbarians cannot understand with foreign languages, so too, apart from worldly people, one cannot understand the world. And as it is said in the scriptures: Without relying on statements, one cannot realize the ultimate truth. Without realizing the ultimate truth, one cannot attain Nirvana. So it is said. When analyzing conventional dharma, in the eyes of worldly people, all statements will disappear. The sutra says: For example, relying on wood and strings, plus the effort of the hand, when these three are gathered together, sounds will be produced from instruments such as lutes and flutes. Therefore, after wise people analyze, if they investigate everywhere where the sound comes from and where it goes, they will not be able to find the origin and destination of the sound. Similarly, all actions that arise from causes and conditions arise in this way. Yogis who see reality will see that all actions are empty and unmoving. The aggregates, sources, and elements are also empty inside,

The play is emptiness. Sentient beings are empty and have nowhere to dwell. Such things are extensively explained. When accepting conventional terms due to the need for verbal meaning and engaging in them, one should not examine and then accept them, because examination will not yield anything, and therefore no establishment of conventional terms should be made. Furthermore, when bound by the characteristics of conventional terms, one should examine and investigate the conventional terms with reason and strive to pacify the characteristics of elaboration. Those who establish conventional terms after examining them with reason are actually establishing conventional terms in a reversed manner, because if conventional terms can be found after examining them with reason, they will become ultimate truth and cannot be conventional terms. If they cannot be found (178a), then the conventional terms will be lost and become ultimate truth. Secondly: At that time, by what kind of reasoning? The arising from self and other is not reasonable. That reasoning is also not reasonable in conventional terms. By what does your arising come to be? Those who cling to things are afraid that analyzing whether all established things exist in the two truths will lead to the suspicion of annihilation, so they say that there is a dharma established as a real entity that is the cause of samsara, nirvana, all defilements, and purification. Even if they assert this, it cannot be established in reality. Therefore, when examining the ultimate truth itself, by what kind of reasoning, as previously stated, is it established that things arising from self and other are unreasonable? By that reasoning, even in conventional terms, arising from self and other is unreasonable, so by what does your arising in the two truths come to be? Therefore, arising is not established. The absence of arising in the two truths is also established in reliance on the wisdom of yogis, so that the characteristics of arising and so on are pacified. Otherwise, there is no characteristic of non-arising, and there is no establisher, so everything is just a name, and where is there even a little bit of essence? Furthermore, some Svatantrika Madhyamikas, while saying that illusions like mirages, if examined, are free from elaboration even in the relative truth, also say that they do not negate arising and so on in the relative truth. This is in order to guide worldly people and to carefully expect the initial practice of conduct, so they explain it in this way. For this purpose.
