If the intention is such, then it is unreasonable. It is because things are not born from their own self-nature characteristics. As stated in the Ratnakuta Sutra: "Kashyapa, furthermore, to accurately and individually contemplate the Dharma through the Middle Way, it is not that emptiness makes the Dharmas empty, but the Dharmas themselves are empty; it is not that signlessness makes the Dharmas without signs, but the Dharmas themselves are without signs; it is not that wishlessness makes the Dharmas without wishes, but the Dharmas themselves are without wishes; it is not that non-action makes the Dharmas non-acting, but the Dharmas themselves are without action; it is not that unborn Dharmas make things unborn, but the Dharmas themselves are unborn; it is not that unarisen makes the Dharmas unarisen, but the Dharmas themselves are unarisen." It is extensively taught. Here, regarding the great Middle Way tradition of Tsongkhapa, the statement that all Dharmas are empty of their own nature, that a pot is not emptied by a pot, but a pot is emptied by truth, and that the pot is empty of itself, is a pre-existing view that has been completely refuted by this text, its commentaries, and other extensive Middle Way scriptures, but is now being adopted here. If this view is adopted, then in this system, it should have been a good prevention of replacing profound emptiness with a partial emptiness, and a good explanation of the principle of pervasive emptiness. However, you are speaking contrary to this system. This prevents speaking of partial emptiness as the way of emptiness (p. 173). For example, the Mind-Only school speaks of emptiness on the dependent nature of other-power, which is empty of the imagined, but they believe that the nature of other-power is not empty. The kind of emptiness that you believe in is not the ultimate emptiness that pervades all Dharmas, because in the two truths, there remains a Dharma that is not empty in the ultimate truth, so it is said that emptiness is partial. This is shifting the fault to those who assert substantiality. If according to the view of the Middle Way school that you believe in, then shifting the fault to the Mind-Only school and others who assert substantiality, that fault will revert back to yourselves. Because the principle of emptiness that you Madhyamikas speak of...

At that time, one acknowledges the emptiness that pervades all phenomena. It is unreasonable to say that, because a pot is a phenomenon, what is it? It is not empty of its own nature, but remains as a remainder. Even if the pot is empty of true establishment by the way it abides, it does not establish that all phenomena are emptiness. If you say that, then wouldn't that Madhyamika who speaks according to your system be unable to avoid admitting defeat in any debate or pervasion? If that is your view, then is the pot empty of its own nature or not? It cannot be explained as not, because your way of explaining Madhyamika is being accepted by the Madhyamikas who assert the absence of inherent existence. If it is, then is the pot's own nature the characteristic (173b) of an object that performs the function of holding water, having a short base, and a bulging belly? Or is it the true establishment that is established by the way it abides? It is impossible to be like the second, because such a thing does not exist in the knowable. If it is like the first, then you will never become a proponent of the Madhyamika school that asserts that all phenomena lack the inherent existence of objects, because the pot's own nature is the characteristic of an object that performs the function of holding water, having a short base, and a bulging belly, what is it? Because it is not empty of its own nature. When we enter this Madhyamika school of the absence of inherent existence, how wonderful it would be if the sound of the Madhyamikas who assert the absence of inherent existence thinking in this way in all lives and lifetimes did not reach the ears of ourselves and others! If it were to spread in this way, it would hinder the generation of supreme realization and would be stained with the great sin of refuting the definitive scriptures of the Bhagavan, because the Bhagavan emphatically taught with definitive meaning that a pot is empty by a pot, and not by a phenomenon other than a pot, that a pot is considered empty, but you say the opposite of this. In the Ratnakuta Sutra, it says: It is not by the emptiness of form that form is empty, but form itself is emptiness. And so on, which is contradictory. If pots and so on are not empty by themselves, then it would be possible for a pot to be empty in a pot, and if you think so, then the pot will be found when analyzed with reason, (174a) and if you think so, then each atom of the pot
